Publisher's Description

The Bible says, "The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it." But it also says, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom." The Bible’s instructions about money often seem contradictory. So what should we do? Kopke explores the seeming contradictory ideas regarding money and demonstrates that these dynamic paradoxes actually reveal God’s truth to us. This cleverly written book encourages readers to reexamine their financial habits to survive tough economic times, helps them prepare for major life transitions, and shows how to learn to use God’s blessing of money.

Author Bio

Jonathan Kopke’s understanding of Christian stewardship has developed through twenty years of giving presentations on the subject in a variety of educational settings. Jonathan and his wife live in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he serves as an elder in an inner-city church and works as a developer of medical information systems.

Editorial Reviews

"In a wonderfully entertaining style and with deep theological insights, Jon Kopke challenges both our understanding and our living out of the stewardship responsibility that God expects of each of us. He makes an important contribution to the growing awareness that our relationship to our money has a great deal to do with our relationship to God. This book makes for excellent personal reading and for great small group discussion."

"A 'must have' resource.... Few books offer more insights and timely sayings than Jon's witty but penetrating analysis of the paradoxes of money... [and] additional meanings of the teachings of the Bible on the use of my time, talents, and money."

"This is an important resource for anyone who is serious about gaining financial wisdom and improving understanding of the biblical perspective on money."

This small book is well written and easy to read but yet thought provoking. I liked how Kopke brought together some of the paradoxes found in the Bible and made them make sense. Kopke's explanations helped to changed my view on money and I would encourage every believer to read this book.

This book gave me a new way of looking at "my money". It helped me to better understand that my money and my possessions are God's and that I need to be a good steward of His blessings.

Debt has been an issue for me. This year, I vowed to get my debt and spending under control. This book is a great guide for that and actually exceeded my expectations. It was well worth the money I spent on it.

Now, when I go to buy something, I think "Would the Master approve of me spending His money this way?" I spend less on myself and give more to His causes because of this.

God's Thrifty Extravagance is exceptionally well-organized and will provoke good discussion if it is used in studies. The questions at the end of each chapter lend well to a study setting. This book will stretch the reader's understanding of his/her possessions, giving and investments.
