Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing by Sally Lloyd Jones and Jago is a beautifully illustrated, well written book of thoughts on faith. It has truths from the Bible in a stand alone story format. This format give the book a lot of flexibility. I think it makes a great bedtime story or evening devotional that you can do.
Each story has a bible verse that it is highlighting with that verse listed on the page as well. For example, one story talks about a donkey and how stubborn they are and how they dont like to be led. It goes on to explain how God doesnt want us to be like a donkey. The verse for this particular story is Psalm 32:9 that states Dont be like a horse or donkey, that doesnt understand. They must be led with bits and reins, or they will not come ear you.
I think that Sally Lloyd-Jones does a great job of explaining and painting a picture for the reader or child of that particular thought, verse or story. For kids, this puts the Bible into perspective. One story talks about a donkey. Sally uses a stubborn animal who doesnt like to be led or close, to explain that God wants us to be close now stubborn and always running from him. What a great example for kids! What a great book of Biblical truths!

mojoTexasAge: 35-44Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful bookSeptember 24, 2013mojoTexasAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Our family has the Jesus Storybook bible and we love it. The pictures from Jago and the beautiful narratives from Sally Lloyd-Jones are works of art in their own right. Well now the two of them have teamed up again to bring you "Thoughts that make your heart sing."
Basically it's a devotional for young kids, and I would say kids between 6-9 years of age. At first glance, the drawings might "look" like it might be appropriate for younger kids, but Sally Lloyd-Jones uses a lot of flowery and descriptive words (almost poetic) that would be lost on a younger child.
The book starts off much like the Bible does with the stories of creation and makes its way through the scriptures and at over 200 pages there is a devotional for over 70 readings!
Each reading is a page accompanied by a stunning picture - the reading is typically a question about faith or about how we see life and it's shortly followed by a passage of scripture.
This book is a wonderful read, sure to be appreciated by parents as well as their kids. In a world where wholesome Christian literature is needed - this book comes as a breathtaking surprise.
The initiation leather binding is what Zondervan calls "Italian Duo-tone" and it pretty much is a "leather-look" made from rubber and paper. It feels and looks like leather, but it's not made from animal products.
