Thoughts for Young Men
Words Cannot Describe
This short little book by J.C. Ryle has been a great blessing to me, and I thank God for sending his servant J.C. Ryle to deliver it. Though this book is very short, it is very profound, and rich in wisdom.
I first read this book when I was sixteen years old, and though I did not know much at the time, the pages in this book greatly helped me living in this ungodly world. My only wish is that I would've read it ten years younger!
I am now twenty, and reading it again has showed me that Ryle's message is even more true, having lived my life another four years. Ryle's second section, "Dangers For Young Men" has been especially a tremendous help and encouragement. Ryle lists five dangers: Pride, Love of Pleasure, Thoughtlessness, Contempt of Christianity, and Fear of Man's Opinion. I would strongly encourage any man young or old to read this section over and over, and the whole book for that matter!
Surely reading and doing the content in these pages will lead any man or woman on the narrow way.

Great book! Every man, young and old, needs to know and implement the timeless truths in this lifechanging book. Great for individual or group study. Makes great men's small group material.

I have a 12 year old son who will be reading this book soon. It's amazing how Bishop Ryle's exhortations apply to today's young men the same as they did over 100 years ago. Our God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow which is why I say that the principles in this book apply to the future generations of men.

For the last few years, I have often contemplated what my top 10 or 12 books would be that have been most useful in propelling either my knowlege of Christ, or propelling my faith as a whole. This is one of those books that does both! Men... of all the books that I would recommend most, this is one of them. This book hits the areas in life that men struggle with, and compels the reader to follow the author's instructions with a verasity that is seldom found in books like it. I have recommended this book to a few others already; and one person was surpised by how valuable, revealing, and compelling this book is, despite it being over 100 years old! At 67 pages, this 'booklet' has proven to provoke a response from me in a way that seems to have matured me in my faith, almost 1 year for every 1 page (if that were possible.) That is how invaluable this book has been to me. If ever there was a book that challenged the reader, yet kept his attention, this is the one. A few of the topics covered in this book: The fear of Man's Opinion, Breaking off sin of every size, Serving God while young is possible, the danger of the Love of Pleasure, and more. It is impossible to acurately and effectively describe the crucial contents of this book without rewriting it. Hopefully you get this book and find it as treasured of a book as I have.
