Product Description

While there are many studies and commentaries on the book of Acts, few focus on the amazing achievement of the people found within its narrative. The first Christians chronicled in Acts turned the world upside down in the space of a generation. In this book, Michael Green opens up the gripping story of Acts, highlighting the volcanic eruption of faith described there and comparing it to the often half-hearted Christianity of the modern Western world. Combing trusted scholarship with a popular, enjoyable writing style, this is an ideal book for church, group, or personal study. Green explores the life and faith of the Christians of Acts, answering such questions as What kind of people were they? How did they live? and How did they organize and practice as members of the new church? Besides unveiling the nature of life in the early church, Green discusses how we today can apply the first Christians' dynamic efforts at church planting, pastoral care, social concerns, gospel proclamation, and prayer.

A fresh look at the beginning of the Church. The writer clearly details how and why the Early Church grew so rapidly and challenges us to think of Acts not just as history and what happened, but rather what the Church should be now. A wake up call to stagnate Christianity. I highly recommend this book.

An excellent book that brings the book of Acts to life. It makes me ashamed that we today with all are technology and blessings are hesitant to stand up for Jesus. It makes me want to shout the Good News from the rooftops.

Green has written an engaging and very informative book. How was the stage set, by God, for the birth and growth of this new phenomenon- Christianity? Why were the first & second century Christians so effective that they turned the world upside down through living out their faith in a thoroughly Pagan culture and an oppressive and at times brutal Empire (and we think we have it tough today in the Western world). How did they connect and engage this pagan culture as Paul had done in Athens? And do it so well? A tremendous and exciting read!If one wants a bit more indepth study of these topics, in an even more thought provoking form, see his book "Evangelism in the Early Church, Revised Edition".This is one man who has thought long and deep about how Christians connected and engaged the cultures around them in the first and second centuries, and then takes it even further- how can we truly follow their example in the 21st. century.A MUST read.

Our midweek group just finished going through this book and found it to be excellent. The comparisons between how the early church lived and functioned and how we, in our culture function, were extremely thought provoking and, to be honest, conflicting. I short, it was a great study for all.
