Think 4:8--40 Days to a Joy-Filled Life for Teens
âÂÂThink 4:8 Forty Days To a Joy Filled Life for Tee
This is a short book that very clearly gives steps to follow to live a joy-filled life every day, no matter what the circumstances, and in the process, gain a closer relationship with God. The volume contains forty days of devotions and is geared towards teenagers. It is based on the following Bible verse:
âÂÂFix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about it.â Philippians 4:8
Basing the book on the above verse, the devotions concentrate on how to bring joy into the everyday life of a teenager. Each devotion covers different situations. The circumstances described are events that could commonly be part of most teenagers lives. Therefore, I believe teens could relate to this volume very easily. This work is very practical and down-to-earth.
Each devotion is only a couple of pages long. It is always followed by some sort of activity for the reader to do. For instance, one day might ask the reader to write down a list of things to be grateful for. Another day might suggest the reader think about a sticky situation that might occur, and brainstorm some possible positive ways to handle it.
The end of each devotion also includes a âÂÂtalk itâ section which involves communicating with someone about the main focus of each devotion. This is followed by a âÂÂsticky noteâ that summarizes the main thoughts that have been covered. Lastly, a short prayer is given for help with the subject of each day.
This great book was a joy to read, had great advice, and lots of realistic applications. I think a teen would have no trouble reading it, or putting into practice most, if not all, of the suggestions. The cover design is eye-catching with a large smiley face in the middle.
When looking at devotionals, one wonders if it will really appeal to a teenager. Since I have a teen living under my roof, I asked if they would look it over. Not only did my teenager look at it, I had a very hard time getting it back. I believe that speak volumes to the appeal of this book. Even though this is targeted towards teens, adults will enjoy it as well. I had been a bit reluctant to review a devotional, but am so glad I did. This book was a blessing to me.
This small, very readable volume, offers advice that I believe, if put into practice, would point oneâÂÂs life in a positive direction. Personally, if a book could do that, I think one should run to get it as fast as possibleâÂÂand that is what I recommend you do with this five-star work.

I have reviewed a few devotionals for teens before but THINK 4:8 is by far my favorite one ever. It is truly focused on what is pure and right. It teaches kids that you can focus on what is good, that it is a choice. That is even something I am still learning.
Part of me wished this devotional was a whole year and not just forty days. Some of my favorite days were the Joy of Purity, Joy of Awareness, Joy of Being Battle Ready, and Joy of Simplicity. There were many simple and useful ways through the entire book on how to keep your focus on God. As an adult (knowing this is a teen devotional) I found myself going hmmm maybe I could do that.
This is definitely one that I will be giving my daughter to read in the new year to read and go through together.
I received this book from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
