Publisher's Description

Addresses what Christians should think and do to solidify their faith and make it not only "real" but something that is their own.

Students (among others!) need help today to make their Christianity "real"-something that is theirs and that they own for themselves. In the current climate of postmodern relativism, with its perceived lack of an "anchor" to hold one’s faith steady, this book turns readers to those "things that cannot be shaken" (Heb. 12:27), especially in matters of sanctification.

Rod Mays and Scott Oliphint focus specifically on providing biblical responses to the Christian concerns that seem to come up most often in the dorm room, the classroom, and even the workplace, such as the authority of Scripture and whether Christianity is true, how to apply the gospel to felt needs, the challenge of inactivity, faith in the face of temptation, and connecting Christianity and the real world on a daily basis. Things That Cannot Be Shaken compellingly highlights what believers should think and do to solidify their faith in environments that seek to undermine it at every turn.

Endorsements

“The authors make vivid the two-way street of our communion with God and God’s being with us. Their book is full of things that we today need urgently to take to heart.” -J. I. Packer, Board of Governors’ Professor of Theology, Regent College

Publisher Description

The current cultural climate does not encourage or equip Christians to remain tethered to the truth, but this book will. The authors focus on those "things that cannot be shaken" (Heb. 12:27)---specifically providing biblical responses to the concerns that Christians frequently encounter in the dorm room, the classroom, and the workplace.

It’s a quickly changing world out there. A world enamored with anything new. But all that “progress” comes with a price: we now live in a relativistic culture that appears to be missing an anchor. All authority is questioned. Truth has been thrown out with traditional views. And nothing seems sure. Especially not matters of faith.

Not even for Christians.

So how do we find our spiritual moorings? In environments that seek to undermine faith at every turn, how do we solidify our thinking so that our faith will not waver? By holding fast to the “things that cannot be shaken” (Heb. 12:27), say authors Scott Oliphint and Rod Mays.

For every challenge you’re likely to face in the dorm, the classroom, even the workplace...

  • Is Christianity true?
  • Can faith really help in my struggle against sin?
  • What does God have to do with my relationships?
  • How can I know what’s real?

Things That Cannot Be Shaken equips you to respond biblically, with certainty and confidence. It will also challenge you to set aside those sins that cling so closely and to let what cannot be shaken become the defining characteristic of your walk with Christ.

I was hoping for a book with an apologetic perspective against the current relativistic culture, which will help you fight this mentality. I found the book to be more useful for believers to strengthen their personal faith, but not as an apologetic resource.
