Tell us a little about yourself. I write and speak to moms and general audiences about living "well loved" by God. My blog is titled, "The Nonreligious Christian," because my passion is helping people understand the difference between religious and authentic Christianity. I love relating to skeptics and thinkers.
What was your motivation behind this project? I was in the throes of "unplanned motherhood"--exhausted, frustrated and resentful toward my children. There were no mothering books that spoke to this. So I wrote the book I needed.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? It speaks to so much more than unexpected motherhood. It addresses theological issues like God's will concerning tragedy, "the challenge child", hope for change, discipline, devotions, personal ambition, busyness, loneliness, love life, ideas for having fun with your kids, and what it looks like for a busy mom to have an authentic and vibrant relationship with God.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I laughed and cried my way through the process. I can't wait to read it! I need this book, and will return to its timeless wisdom until my kids have left the nest. Then there will be grandchildren, and I'll dust if off to read again.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My dad was very influential in developing my spirituality. Most of my parenting wisdom comes from my own parents and the Bible. For non-parenting topics, I love the solid doctrinal stuff of Tim Keller, the down-to-earth tone of Anne Lamott and Donald Miller, and the thought-provoking writings of CS Lewis and many others. I'm a very eclectic reader and my spectrum of appreciation is broad.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: This book offers so much more than parenting advice. It's full of wisdom for life.
