TDNT is an authorized and unabridged translation of Theologisches Worterbuch zum Neuen Testament. This work was first published in the German edition in 1933. It is designed for the intermediate and advanced Greek student. Each significant Greek word of the New Testament is generally presented in its secular Greek background; its role in the Old Testament (both in the Hebrew and the Septuagint); its use by Philo, Josephus, the rabbinical literature; its uses in the New Testament, which is sometimes classified according to synoptic, Johannine, Petrine and Pauline usage; and sometimes the Apostolic Fathers are included as well.

There were more than 100 scholars who contributed to the work, including specialists in Old Testament, Septuagint, Hellenistic, Semitic and Rabbinic studies. Substantial bibliographies and extensive footnotes supplement the articles. Volume 10 is an index volume to the entire series, compiled by Ronald Pitkin.

This product came without dust covers, which was a surprise. However, dust covers suffer wear and tear easily, and as the product appears as it is in the photo, this is not an issue. And, at the amazing sale price that I purchased it from CBD, I am rapt. These volumes are a treasured addition to my library. Thank you CBD for making this essential set available at such an affordable price.

Usually I am well pleased with what I order from CBD. However on this item I was not exactly pleased. My reason is: I did not realize this was a reprint. When I saw the picture to order I assumed it had dust jackets like another set I have. It has the same cover as the dust jacket. It is also much cheaper made than the set I am familiar with. thanks and was disappointed.

I have used the Theological dictionary for a long time. It was referred to me by my mentor. It can be helpful but it is too techincal for most people.

This set is exactly what should come to mind when you hear someone say the word ' essential ' in Bible study material. Any pastor and serious student of Scripture will benefit when using this work. This edition is beautifully bound and the articles stimulate many excellent thoughts. I have found this set along with Lenski's NT commentaries to be a great help in preparing sermons and Bible studies on key concepts,doctrines and verses of the New Testament. A good value.

It doesn't get any better than this. you need to be familiar with Greek (or should I say, you will become familiar with Greek). This set finalizes and perfects New Testament word study. -and the price cannot be beat, it is a highly profitable investment. God Bless, Jeff Lucas

The level of scholarship alone, justifies a hefty price for this set. I could not believe one could purchase such a long-standing and respected work for this price! This is a lifetime purchase and while it assumes a level of understanding of NT Greek, the English exegesis and in-depth analysis easily opens up the meaning of biblical Greek for a neophyte to understand. This is a steal!

TDNT is indispensable for understanding Greek lexicography. It is unparalled in scope and depth. I can't recommend this highly enough. The only word of caution I have is that some people assume a word's lexical origin is the only way to understand its meaning, but the context of that word plays just as much if not a more important role in truly understanding a word. Unfortunately this problem is compounded by the tendancy of sompe pastors to base the meaning of an entire passage on the lexical history of a single word, which may or may not be truly relavent to the text at hand. However, acknowledging that, one absolutely cannot dispense with the study of lexicography, because without it one has no frame of reference to even begin studying a passage. So, properly used, this set is one of the most important tools students of the word of God can have.

The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament is one of the finest. For a concise understanding of the Greek this set of books is a must for your library. I know that you will be glad you made the investment. I know I am. Once you use these you will never want an Interlinear.
