A devastating fire wakes up the Yadas to a new reality: God is on the move.
What I'd like to know is, why does God keep rearranging my comfort zone? It could have something to do with my Yada Yada prayer sisters, who aren't afraid to get in each other's faces and tend to expect big things from God.
But to move forward, sometimes we have to let go of what's behind. In spite of the loss of two dear friends. In spite of the breakup of a teenage love. In spite of the curse of HIV. In spite of prison time hanging over the head of a beloved child. In spite of fire consuming the hopes of those who have nothing.
Yet out of the ashes, God is doing a new thing! It's time for the Yadas to press on, pray on, and get rolling!
Through the perspective of Jodi Baxter, the main character and Yada Yada Prayer Group veteran, readers watch hardships fall on many of the group members families. Floridas son, Chris, has to face charges of armed robbery. Ruth tries to learn how to be a parent for the first time in her 50s. Avis daughter, Rochelle, discovers that she has HIV after running away from an abusive marriage and getting away with her young son, Conny. These, along with many other untimely circumstances, cause the Yada Yada sisters to fall to their knees more frequently than ever before.
At times, this novel borders on the land of the ideal. Whether its because of the deep friendships formed between people from such drastically different backgrounds or Jodis unbelievable ability to find and reflect on something spiritual at every incident, the realistic quality of this novel can definitely be called into question. However, these model characters certainly do set a standard for us to live up to.
The novel starts off slowly, despite the vivid depiction of a fire at the local homeless shelter in the prologue, and doesnt really pick up speed until about 100 pages into the plot. Once it takes off, though, be prepared to stay up all night because you wont be able to put it down.
The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Rolling is an enjoyable experience. Any woman over the age of 25 will be able to relate to the characters and enjoy the storyline. Jackson brings up many great points about looking for the possibilities and making the most of opportunities, causing it to be an especially good choice for a womens book club. While this is the sixth book in the series, the author does an excellent job bringing new readers in, but I would still recommend reading the first five novels. Of course, those who have already begun to enjoy this series will want to get reacquainted with their favorite characters and see what theyre in for this time. Jeannie DonaldsonStatesboro, GAAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A bit pricey, but worth every penny!!!January 26, 2013Jeannie DonaldsonStatesboro, GAAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5All the Yada Yada Prayer Group books have been fantastic, but this one was the most surprising so far. There is never a dull moment as the Yadas pray, praise, and serve God where they have been planted. Some really hard shocks come to the Yadas in this book, but as always, they come out of the circumstances more in love with God, and stronger in their faith. Characters are molded, comfort zones have been stretched to the max, and God is moving in great and wonderful ways in the lives of the Yadas and their families. I had a hard time putting it down, and am so very sorry that there is only one more book to go - unless a book 8 is in the wind??? (I can only hope...)
I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes a lot of spiritual meat on the bones of their stories. This book will seriously make you search your heart - while providing wonderful entertainment for adults and teens. I really can't say enough about it, so I will close with this - GET IT - you will LOVE IT!!
