Bob HaytonSt. Paul, MNAge: 25-34Gender: male3 Stars Out Of 5delightful devotionalMay 16, 2011Bob HaytonSt. Paul, MNAge: 25-34Gender: maleThe Gift of Psalms, is a book printed on special paper and with a deluxe smooth leather-ish cover. Included are three audio CDs with a reading from The Word of Promise Audio Bible coupled with a reading of the devotional thought from the book for that particular psalm.
The Word of Promise readings are from the New King James Version, which has a majestic quality about it when read aloud. The readings are done by various actors such as Sean Astin, Richard Dreyfuss, Joan Allen, and a variety of other names. The quality of the recordings are excellent, with some background majestic sounding classical music.
In the book, one page includes an excerpt from the psalm for that day, and the opposite page contains Lori Jones' devotional. The devotionals focus on the theme found in the psalm for that day, but don't hesitate to reference other Scriptures. At the end of each devotional is a short prayer in response to the reading.
The CDs include the entire Psalm, not just an excerpt, and fit nicely into the back cover of the book, in special slots. The book covers 50 Psalms, while the CDs cover 30. Even so, the book would make a great companion to a personal reading through the Psalms.
The only thing the book really lacks is a nice bookmark similar to what one would find in a Bible. It seems like it cries out for something like that, with each page being so glossy and thick, and with the fine finish.
This book is an excellent gift book, and I enjoyed reading it. My thanks go out to Thomas Nelson, for providing me with a copy of this book. I'm planning on making my copy a gift, soon.

Brenda RisnerRuckersville, VAAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5January 12, 2010Brenda RisnerRuckersville, VAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleA beautiful book, accompanying CD, and daily devotions all wrapped up into one package. The devotions in this book are great and reflect the praise and comfort that the Psalms often bring. But what makes this book unique is the packaging. From the classy cover to the soothing tones on the accompanying CD, this devotional book really stands apart. The CD, with the psalms and devotional reading included, allow for one to have devotions while driving or getting ready in the morning. It is also very nice for those with vision difficulties. The book itself has a luxurious feel, inviting the reader to sit and ponder its words. If you're looking for a gift or to treat yourself, this devotional book is a fantastic choice!
Catherine4 Stars Out Of 5July 30, 2009CatherineThe Word of PromiseThe Gift Of PsalmsDevotional Wisdom from 50 of the Best Loved PsalmsThe Gift of Psalms is a book of 50 Psalms adapted from the New King James version of the Bible. It contains devotional passages written by Lori Jones for each psalm. Also included in a storage area in the back of the book are 3 compact discs which have 30 of the psalms and the corresponding devotionals on them. This is a nice gift book. It has a nice layout and design, and is a hardback book with heavy weight pages. Each 2 page spread has the psalm on one side and the devotional and a prayer on the facing page. The 3 compact discs contain 30 of the psalms and devotionals read by people such as: Michael York, Gary Sinise, Malcolm McDowell, Richard Dreyfus, and others. The different voices make it interesting, and the background music is pleasant. All in all, this is a very well put together book, excellent quality in both the book and the discs. Would make a nice gift or devotional book.

BrianIntercession City, Fla.Age: 45-54Gender: male2 Stars Out Of 5March 25, 2009BrianIntercession City, Fla.Age: 45-54Gender: maleThe Gift of Psalms (published by Tyndale) is a devotional book from 50 of the best known Psalms. Along with a devotion for 50 Psalms it comes with a CD. The book itself is beautifully put together, nicely laid out with glossy pages. The devotions as, stated in the title, cover some of the best known Psalms. At that point the book takes on a big challenge. With a plethora of devotional books on the market, to try to come up with some new and original devotionals from the Psalms, the book falls short. The devotionals themselves are somewhat boring to read, though they tend to be a little more interesting hearing them read from the CDI always have problems with authors who feel they have to correct the scriptures because it does not quite fit their theology.Eg. On the 24th Psalm where David says Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? (referring to heaven) David answers, He who has clean hands and a pure heart The writer then says, Not one of us can say that he or she has clean hands and a pure heart If that is the case then I suppose none of us will go to heaven and thus we are doomed to a life of trials and temptations without any hope of a happy hereafter.Out of a possible 5 stars I would give the book 2.
