Tell us a little about yourself. I am a pastor's wife and my husband and I have been involved in Christian ministry for over thirty years. Mush time has been devoted to mission work - planting and establishing the work of God in British Columbia and Guatemala. Our present labor is here in Florida where my husband pastors a congregation, but we still find time for our mission work in Guatemala. In recent years, I have also been able to devote more time to my passion - writing. I have written for many years, mainly non- fiction, for a variety of ministries. I authored several children's columns for periodicals and have a great interest in impacting children for Christ during their formative years. My character, "Mrs. Trufax" has been a project designed for this purpose. I have authored two previous books, short stores and several award-winning essays. One essay, "The Bells of Freedom," was Ohio's 2005 winner for the, Daughters of the American Revolution, of which I am a proud member. I am president and founder of Brandon Christian Writers, a chapter of American Christian Writers, and I try to inspire and encourage aspiring Christian writers. I devoted my early years to being a good wife and raising my children, who are now grown and on their own. I loved being a Mom and now enjoy my grandchildren as well. Life is good when God is the center of our lives.
What was your motivation behind this project? I have had this book, The Wild Rose of Lancaster, on my heart for many years, but because the circumstances of my life were so busy with family and ministry, I just couldn't seem to get at it. After my mother passed away several years ago, I wrote a story titled, Stories from the Box, which included stories from my paternal and maternal grandmother's lives, one of which was publishes by Ogden. This seemed to be a motivating factor in moving forward with this project. That, and the passing of my beloved mother and realizing that, life is short, and we must not allow the opportunity to impact others with our own faith inspiring experiences slip away from us. My paternal grandmother's life story impacted my life as a child and I always felt that, someday, I would write her story. This is her story, woven into a tale that is inspirational and challenging to any reader.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My goal in writing inspirational fiction is to inspire the reader to understand that, no matter what circumstances God allows to come into our lives, God is always there - waiting - ready to help and assist us throughout life's uneven journey. The basic facts of this story are true, woven into a historical setting that I know and love. The story is designed to elevate faith and belief in the ever-present Providential hand of God.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My influences are those who have been closet to me throughout my life. My grandmother's godly life impacted me as a child and her story is interwoven in The Wild Rose of Lancaster. My husband is a Pastor and his position in the Body of Christ, and mine, as pastor's wife, are always sources for inspiration and faith. The challenges of the ministry have been a continual source of "writing material." I am an avid reader and love both fiction and non-fiction authors of the Christian genre. I enjoy the works of Phillip Keller, Michael Phillips, Francine Rivers, and all the old classics such as John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, Oswald Chambers, and the great old authors of the Bible.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I would like to say that no matter what our circumstances are in life, God can help us to overcome the most devastating and debilitation problems that may arise throughout our journey through life. I know this from personal experience. I was diagnosed with an debilitating eye disease called, Stargardt's disease. This genetic disease left me legally blind, but with God as my Helper, and the world of computers, I have been able to function as most sighted people. Life is still good when God is in control and is the center of all that we are and do. I praise Him for His wonderful love to me.
