From the back cover: "It was her last chance. She must cast all caution to the winds and get away."
Following the death of her beloved father, Rachel Rainsford hastily accepts a position as companion to an elderly lady and boards a train headed west. But as high hopes mix with growing fear, Rachel receives a startling note from a fellow passenger...
When Chan Prescott, a former student of Rachel's father, overhears a boastful conversation between two men, he knows he must do something-everything-to help Rachel. She is part of a dastardly scheme to sell her as a companion to a corrupt Chicago businessman. So Chan takes a chance and hopes Rachel will follow his lead.
Her destiny sealed, Rachel isn't sure she can trust a stranger but has nowhere else to turn. With the criminals in close pursuit, the two begin a daring escape-one that will take more than each other to see them through.
When Grace Livingston Hill's first husband died he left her with two young daughters to raise. In an effort to support her family she turned to writing. However, Ms. Hill just didn't want to write just anything she wanted to write stories of faith. Ms. Hill also knew how to write very exciting adventure thrillers. Originally written in 1927 "The White Flower" is a wonderful story of how God can take our circumstances and change them to the better. Rachel Rainsford is taking a train across country to take a job to support herself. While she is sitting on the train she is given a note that there is a plot to abduct her and sell her as a slave to a wealthy businessman. She doesn't know her abductors nor does she know her rescuer but she needs to trust herself to a complete stranger to come out of this dangerous situation. How this story is all going to work out is what makes for really delightful reading. I think "The White Flower" is a suspenseful thriller and a wonderful romance that will keep you flipping pages as fast as you can read them to find out what happens next. Ms. Hill knows how to tell a great story and this may be her best yet.
