I found this Novella on my Kindle after I read all the books in this series and wish I had remembered I had it and read it first. This is the story of how Lady Rosemarie, from the first book, An Uncertain Choice, came to discover the Vow her parents had made regarding her future.

Lady Rosemarie has been promised to serve God beginning the day she turns eighteen, but she does not know this until she is fourteen and her parents die of the Plague. Does she have to give up her fledgling romance with Lord Thomas Caldwell? Read this Novella to find out before reading An Uncertain Choice by Jody Hedlund. Enjoy!

Tragedy and despair have come knocking at the door. If the door remains shut will it go away?

Lady Rosemarie's life has been turned upside down in more ways the one. With her plans for the future completely demolished, she holds her head high with a determination to be the best that she can be.

How can Jody Hedlund snare my attention so effectively in just seven chapters? My only regret is that I can't start An Uncertain Choice quite yet. I was quickly swept away to the late 1300s in this novella. The detail and language is exquisite. Definitely worth a read.

The Vow is a prequel to An Uncertain Choice. The time period is very well written. The characters are real and fresh. I'm not usually a novella fan but this one gets five stars from me! I love Jody Hedlund's books! I know this one is written for younger readers but I'm 39 and I loved it!

In The Vow by Jody Hedlund, young Lady Rosemarie begins to notice the affection of a young man from a nearby manor. But just as he confesses interest in her, the plague is spotted in her parents lands. The sole heir of all her parents own, Lady Rosemarie is sent away to a monastery to be safe from the disease. But soon the discovery of a mysterious vow turns all her plans upside down.

I enjoyed The Vow. It was really short and did not end at all the way I thought it would. It is so short, I dare not say too much about it for fear of giving it all away. There is much more than I would have expected packed into the tiny little book. Things about character, treatment of humans, being an example and a leader even as a youth, and doing what is right even when it is hard. Despite its small size, The Vow tells a good, surprising story and teaches worthwhile morals to all of its readers.

Sweet little Rosemarie is faced with difficult situations and choices. She is valiant and pure even though she is only a young teen. I appreciated the fact that she took the large responsibilities presented laid upon her despite the sacrifices she would have to make. I look forward to reading more of her story.

One thing to note about The Vow is that it seems more like a prologue to Jodys new book, An Uncertain Choice, than a stand-alone novella. It has merit and sweetness on its own, but will be much more fulfilling for the reader to be read in conjunction to An Uncertain Choice.

I eagerly look forward to An Uncertain Choice and applaud Jody Hedlund for a lovely prequel novella.
