i rec'd the book 'The Gift' as a gift...literally - a Christmas gift! I wasn't sure what to expect since I'm a nonfiction guy but I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the book very much and will seek out other books by the author.
Seven year old Patrick Collins is suddenly alone. With the death of his mother and his father away fighting in the war, he is taken to live with a grandfather he has never known. His grandfather is a grouchy bitter old man and quite frankly Patrick does not like him.
What has made Ian Collins so bitter? What does he have against his only grandson? Why cant he accept and love Patrick?
This story was an emotional ride for me. It brought me to tears.
The Unfinished Gift is the first book I have read by this author. I immediately ordered the sequel called, The Homecoming. I cant wait to read it!
If you havent read this book yet, I urge you to buy it. I highly recommend it!
What a wonderful Christmas story! It pulls at your heartstrings immediately as you are introduced to the little boy who you want to just wrap your arms around and protect from the harsh realities of life in the 1940's. This is a broken family that has much to work through, but this little boy just knows how to bring everyone together. He has an old soul in such a young boy but the story keeps you reading and cheering for him to succeed. It definitely is worth reading every year at Christmas!
