Publisher's Description

The only promise the book makes is that God will be with the caregiver in their caregiving journey...and that's a powerful promise.

The Lord Is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Be In Want...

In an often thankless and unending job, The Twenty-Third Psalm for Caregivers is a welcome reminder that caregivers  are not alone, The Shepherd sees, leads, and empowers caregivers and will restore their weary souls.

Each phrase of the 23rd Psalm becomes the subject for a topical chapter, addressing those who struggle as single parents. Fifteen true-life stories about single parents that encourage, inspire, bring hope, and draw the reader to God.

The Scriptures, accompanying quotations, and classic hymns show a relationship with the Shepherd can meet the needs of the single parent for care, provision, rest, peace, hope, direction, patience, courage, friendship, comfort, protection, healing, blessings, love, and joy.

Author Bio

CARMEN LEAL is the author of nine books including The Twenty Third Psalm for Caregivers, The Twenty-Third Psalm for Those Who Grieve. The Twenty-Third Psalm for the Brokenhearted Faces of Huntington's, and Portraits of Huntington's. Her writing have been featured in Guidepost. Focus on the Family, and dozens of anthologies. Carmen and her husband live in Hawaii.

The Twenty-third Psalm for Caregivers is a lovely new gift book by Carmen Leal. It speaks straight to the heart of persons who find themselves in the heart-wrenching business of caring for a sick, elderly or bedridden family member. Carmen addresses the special needs and problems of caretaking that can be addressed by the twenty-third Psalm.
Carmen Leal was caregiver for her husband who died of Huntingtonfs disease. She talks about her own experiences and what she learned about Godfs love and mercy. She is able to give encouragement to caregivers who are exhausted, angry and discouraged. This is her sixth book, including Faces of Huntingtonfs and Portraits of Huntingtonfs. Carmen is a singer and often speaks at womenfs retreats, churches and writerfs conferences.
The book has 15 sections each based on a segment of the Psalms and an attribute of Jesus as our shepherd. Each contains quotations by people like Charles Spurgeon and Corrie Ten Boom, words from comforting hymns and scripture verses. The pages are light tan and appear textured decorated with calligraphy and small pictures of sheep.
Chapter Six -- The Shepherd Who Directs uses the phrase: gHe leads me in the paths of righteousness...h Carmen shares how God helped her to overcome anger about the reality of finding lifefs plans changed by her new responsibility as caregiver. Inside the front cover across from a presentation page is this quotation by Thomas aŒ Kempis, gHence we must support one another, console one another, mutually help, counsel, and advise.h
Before I read the book, I had not seen see myself as a caregiver. Yet, I now see how all of us are called to care for others and there are times and seasons in my life when I am and will again be a caregiver. This book is well written and beautifully laid out. I would strongly recommend it as an encouraging gift to anyone who finds himself, even temporarily, in the role of caregiver. -- Elece Hollis, Christian Book

The book was ok, but not what I thought for a book to support a caretaker. Thought it would have more scripture and encouraging comments, not stories of other people.

Takes me out of myself, to realize I'm not alone, He is My Shephard and cares about what is going on. It's not deep, so I can read it easily when I'm exhausted and soak up what the author is sharing from her heart. The stories stay with me, the words of the 23 Pslam softly speak to me.

This is a beautiful book. The stories are so inspirational and I could identify with something in all of them. My one great disappointment was the very, very small print which, even with good eyes, it was difficult to read and enjoy. I was hoping to order more but after this one, I will not be re-ordering. I'm sorry about that.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Carmen Leal

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm number four out of eight children. I live in Florida but to me home is Hawaii. It is simply a part of who I am. I have two great sons and a wonderful husband who is my biggest support. I'm writing a screenplay, lots more books, I am a singer, and speak to groups of all sizes. My kids tell me the only reason I write is to have something to market. The real reason lies in my mission statemment which is to help the hurting world accept finite disappointment while accepting the infinite hope of eternal salvation through Jesus Christ. This is accomplished by the publication of books and articles, the production and performance of music, and relevant public speaking and training.

What was your motivation behind this project?  This is the book I wanted when I was actively caregiving. Everything was a how to or fix it book. I needed spiritual balm and there was nothing. The Twenty Third Psalm for Caregivers is designed to reach those who are searching for spiritual comfort, relief, and direction, the book also helps readers as they experience loss, frustration, anger, and grief.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I want people to feel as if they have just climbed up on Daddy-God's lap and gotten hope and comfort. When they finish the book I want them to know that somethings simply can't be fixed. But that's okay because the Lord is their Shepherd and they shall not want. He will get them through this and everything else that happens.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I am inspired by a variety of authors and musicians. I got saved listening to a Sandi Patty tape while I was in the Christian bookstore. That, plus her amazing voice nd the depth of her song choices, makes her my number one source of musical inspiration. C. S. Lewis, Corrie ten Boom, the Bible, of course, and more writers than there is room to list also inspire and influence me.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I think my biggest influence has been my mother. She is a pragmatic problem solver who has been sort of my model through various faith building situations.
