Publisher's Description

When Megan Juddman learns that "friendly fire" killed her husband in the Gulf War, guilt and bitterness consume her -- guilt over a shameful secret she harbors and bitterness over a suspected government cover-up. After escaping to her hometown, Twisp, in eastern Washington, she meets Tharon Marsh, a decorated officer in the Gulf War who has also come to the valley to bury a painful past. Their friendship grows towards something deeper until Megan discovers Tharon's terrible secret: he ordered the fire that killed her husband. Their personal turmoil increases when the disasters of the September11, World Trade Center attacks, thrust the country into a new war and Tharon is recalled to active duty. Tension reaches the breaking point when, over Megan's protests, her troubled eighteen-year-old son enlists. Will Megan be able to relinquish her hold on the past and find a way to forgive?

I agree with the lady from Guatemala. It took some effort to 'get into' the story. Re. Conaniah's prayer, I thought that was his prayer as written? The connection between Megan and Marsh was a little convoluted and contorted. I also had some difficulty fitting the puzzle with the senior reporter. Of course, he has a living wife, so a love story in that direction wasn't it.

I really enjoyed this book. I'll list three positive points: 1) It has a stronger Christian message than "Betrayal in Paris". 2) I was really drawin into the characters - I felt like I was part of it all. 3) Both the characters and the plot where very real. Now two negative points: 1)Ms. Fell should have included the words of Conaniah's prayer when he receives Jesus. A non-Christian reader wouldn't know what he prayed! This was a huge drawback! 2) Sometimes the story developed at a slow pace. This occured only in some sections of the first half. The rest of it was suspenseful and captivating. Summary: An awesome plot with very real characters in a real world. I enjoyed it very much. I hope a third book comes out SOON!
