Jesus told a story about a hidden treasure that, once discovered, brought life-changing joy. In The Treasure Principle, Randy Alcorn unearths a simple yet profound principle that will radically change your concept of stewardship. Short on guilt, Alcorn illuminates the liberating joy of giving and its impact, not only for today but for eternity as well. A perennial bestseller, this revised edition includes a new concluding chapter, "31 Radical, Liberating Questions to Ask God About Your Giving."
Flip-Flop Your Concept of Giving! Bestselling author Randy Alcorn introduced readers to a revolution in material freedom and radical generosity with the release of the original The Treasure Principle in 2001. Now the revision to the compact, perennial bestseller includes a provocative new concluding chapter depicting God asking a believer questions about his stewardship over material resources. Readers are moved from the realms of thoughtful Bible exposition into the highly personal arena of everyday life. Because when Jesus told His followers to "lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven," He intended that they discover an astounding secret: how joyful giving brings God maximum glory and His children maximum pleasure.
When you discover the secret joy of the Treasure Principle, I guarantee you'll never be content with less. So claims Alcorn in the introduction to this small gift book on Christian generosity. Noting that fifteen percent of Christ's teachings in the New Testament deal with money and possessions, more than his teachings on heaven and hell combined Alcorn compares heavenly treasure, which is eternal, with earthly riches, which will always be lost after death. Alcorn encourages Christians to understand that everything they believe they own is actually God's; they are merely managers. He is a compelling storyteller, whether drawing on Scripture, accounts of others who have lived generously, or recounting his own experiences; all of his book royalties and a large portion of his salary go to charity. Analyzing the pervasive disease of affluenza and the fact that Americans unprecedented wealth does not seem to be bringing extraordinary happiness, he says that he and other people who have discovered the secret of unfettered giving know that they are storing up treasures in heaven, their true home. Alcorn's writing here is more akin to a motivational speech (including an overabundance of rhetorical questions, italicized words and exclamation points for emphasis) than a book. However, many Christians will appreciate his countercultural messages that giving is the only antidote to materialism and the health and wealth gospel dishonors Christ. Indeed, for many, this could be a life-changing book. Copyright 2005 Publishers Weekly

This is nothing less than a life changing book that challenges Christians to come up higher in our walk with Christ. I plan on using this for our whole congregation in small group studies.

The Treasure Principle by Randy Alcorn is one of many books on the market encouraging Christians to give first to the Lord and trust in His blessings. This books stands head and shoulders above others in this genre because the author truly lives the message of which he writes. Alcorn, who is well known for his many books, especially Heaven, lives on minimum wage. All of his books belong to his church which donates 90% of the profits to charities close to Alcorn's heart. Compare this to other pastors who tell you to tithe, and that you can start by mailing your money directly to them! Alcorn's Treasure Principle is that when we are good stewards of the gifts that God has given us on earth, He will reward us, and we will store up treasures accordingly in Heaven. He uses as an example: if I offered you $1000 today or if you waited, $10,000,000 in a year and then again every year after forever, which would you take? Anyone taking the $1000 would be sacrificing a greater treasure for small happiness today. I know this is a sin I am guilty of, but Alcorn's book offers hope and straightforward reasons for me to repent. It's a thoroughly enjoyable book with a wonderful message.

This book totally changed my attitutde toward giving. The first principle created a paradigm shift for me and the other principles provided an incredible foundation for giving. After reading the book, giving became a joy instead of an obligation.

As chairman of our church's Stewardship Ministry Team, I have researched many websites and read several books on this topic. The Treasure Principle stands out as my number one resource. I couldn't put it down - it presents the effect that money and possessions has on our relationship with God and sheds new light on what the Bible has to say. Randy Alcorn has an incredible way of writing that kept me turning the pages. I read this book more than a year ago and then designed a year-round stewardship awareness program at our church that has resulted in a miraculous increase in our congregation's giving. I now buy this book ten at a time and have also purchased the small group study and DVD which I've used in two study groups. This book, The Treasure Principle - is a treasure itself!

The Treasure Principle is perhaps the most important book I've read in the last twenty years. If Christians worldwide were to have their hearts and actions transformed by the Treasure Principle, the world would be a radically different place. You must read this book.

Really makes you think about how Christians need to handle money. Great information on giving to the Lord's work.
