In the movie, the characters deal with life in different ways. Each person's focus in wrong in the beginning. As father and son interact, it causes growth. Having an analytical mind that could not accept faith, the older man tries to prove God. Since the old man can't understand what faith is, his son takes him (as his mind is going)to show him the northern lights that he talked about in theory. Finally, he SEES the hand of God and believes, it is an awesome moment. It shows how different people deal with problems, the life we have been given, and most of all the Lord.I really enjoyed the movie and felt it was good entertainment.

I'm sorry to see the poor reviews of this film, since it is very worth your time. No, it's not an evangelism flick, but, it is spiritual, and good, wholesome entertainment. The scientist portrayed was far less "mad" than most living "scientists" who dispense with the reality of God. God is indeed "the Theory of Everything" - faith and true science are rapidly converging to open up Reality to us. True Christianity and real science have never been at odds.

I was very disappointed in this movie. The plot was all over the place and the characters were poorly developed. The Gospel was not clearly presented anywhere in the movie. One of the main characters wife mutters a single comment about faith in Christ after 45 minutes of the film had already passed. Dr. Holland says he "sees Jesus" as his newfound son takes him to look at the Northern Lights. Don't waste your time or money with this movie.

My wife and I really enjoyed this DVD! Well done in all areas (storyline, acting, production, editing, sound, etc). A terminally ill man who has spent much of his life trying to prove the existence of God discovers the answer in an unexpected way Humorous moments, tender moments mixed with some awesome scenery in an absorbing story make this heartwarming movie a favorite.

This film isn't going to be everybody's idea of "evangelistic". The main character is trying to "find God" by creating a mathematical formula that explains the higher dimension of faith in God (no wonder he is eventually declared legally insane). His family stands by and marvels.Wanting to be supportive his son tries to help him create this formula although the son and his wife profess to know Jesus. Why no one points him to what the Bible says about the "door" to heaven or the "keys" is not answered in the movie. When the old man reports fear of dying his son takes him to see the Northern lights, and promptly the father reports that his fear is now gone and he is certain that Jesus is the way.Sure, there's no foul language so it may be family friendly (although the old man's eccentric behavior would not make it the most appealing entertainment for children), but I would not say that "evangelistic" is a fitting description.
