As movies go, this is a really nice story with some lovely animation, perfectly suited for children and adults of any age. HOWEVER, if you love the book (as I genuinely do) and are expecting to see anything remotely resembling the truly beautiful story that Kate diCamillo wrote, you will be disappointed. Very, very little of the plot or details of the movie coincide with the actual events of young Despereaux's life, and to use the title of that magical book for this movie is, dear reader, something akin to perfidy. (Perfidy is, alas, one of many important details that is startlingly absent in the film.) So, by all means watch it, but diCamillo fans should perhaps adjust their expectations before viewing.
