Another Great Read from Gilbert Morris
Another historically charged read from Gilbert Morris!
The Surrender tells the two intertwined tales of the fictional Tremayne family along with the love story of Robert E. Lee's devotion to his wife.
I have been a fan of Gilbert Morris's book ever since I was eleven and his were the only adult books beside Janette Oke's that I was allowed to read. The Surrender is another great novel, historically acurate and engaging.
One of my favorite things about this book was how Mr. Morris does such a great job of portraying Robert E. Lee. I also enjoy how the historical facts are woven into the story so that what is going on all around is explained, while making it so that the reader comes away with a better understanding and knowledge of the time period.
The characters are likable, (unless they aren't supposed to be) and deport themselves with honor. Morgan was a great main character, who like Robert E. Lee had a passion for his country and felt that it was his duty to fight for it even if he didn't agree with everything it stood for.
Overall, another great novel from Gilbert Morris. In my mind Gilbert Morris is a timeless author, I have enjoyed his books for years, and intend to enjoy them for years to come :)
I received this ebook from the publisher in exhchange for an honest review. Thank you!

History, Romance And The Civil War = Great Read!
Gilbert Morris in his new book, âÂÂThe Surrenderâ Book Three in The Last Cavaliers Series published by Barbour Publishing takes us back to The Civil War and the devastation left behind for the survivors to clean up.
From the back cover: War opens eyes to love.
Raised in the pastoral Shenandoah Valley, Morgan Tremayne strikes out to quietly seek his own way. He establishes a horse farm and a reputation as a good and upright man, even taking in Jolie, a young girl left homeless when one of MorganâÂÂs neighbors dies.
Word of MorganâÂÂs honesty, and the quality of his horses, spreads among the First Families of Virginia. His most values patron is the family of Colonel Robert E. Lee of Arlington, VirginiaâÂÂfor in Mary Custis Lee, Colonel LeeâÂÂs wife, Morgan discovers a true friend.
As war looms, Morgan, a pacifist by nature, has grave doubts. But he knows he must defend his homeland, and so he follows Lee into battle, leaving his ward, Jolie, behind. Jolie has grown into a beautiful womanâÂÂand though she only has eyes for Morgan, he stills sees the gangly child he rescued years before. Will it take a life-changing injury in the fires of the wilderness before Morgan surrenders to the love heâÂÂs always longed for but couldnâÂÂt see?
This time the focus is on Morgan TremayneâÂÂa world of raising horses and honesty. He also raises, Jolie, a neighborâÂÂs daughter who became orphaned when that neighbor died. Morgan also has a great friendship with Robert E. Lee and his family. It is into this world that The Civil War intrudes. Reluctantly Morgan joins southern forces under General Lee to defend his homeland. The war changes everything, including his relationship with Jolie.
Before Gilbert Morris became the prolific writer that he is he was a history professor. So teaching us about history in a very entertaining manner is second nature to him. He was also a pastor so teaching us Christian principles is also second nature to him. In âÂÂThe Surrenderâ both second natures become one. I think this is historical fiction at its finest.
âÂÂThe Surrenderâ is a book of history as it tells the story of General Lee and his exploits during the war. It is a book of the romance between Morgan and Jolie. It is a thriller as everyoneâÂÂs lives are in deadly jeopardy as the War Between the States rages on. Then there is the theme of GodâÂÂs saving grace, that it is a choice each person must make for themselves and that it cannot be forced on a person. Gilbert Morris is an expert at bringing historical events to life while weaving in the fictional aspects of the story in a seamless flowing pattern. He makes you care for all the people involved and takes you along for the journey. I have been reading everything by Gilbert Morris for a long time and I have to say that this may be his finest work. This is also just plain fun and exciting as well.
If, like me, you have read everything ever written by Gilbert Morris then you are going to love this book. If this is your first reading of anything by Gilbert Morris you are going to love this book. âÂÂThe Surrenderâ is a very fulfilling read and a fitting ending to this series.
