Product Description

When successful New York editor Jen Gibbs discovers a decaying slush-pile manuscript on her desk, she has no idea that the story of Sarra, a young mixed-race woman trapped in Appalachia at the turn of the twentieth century, will both take her on a journey and change her forever. Happy with her life in the city, and at the top of her career with a new job at Vida House Publishing, Jen has left her Appalachian past and twisted family ties far behind. But the search for the rest of the manuscript, and Jen's suspicions about the identity of its unnamed author, will draw her into a mystery that leads back to the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains . . . and quite possibly through the doors she thought she had closed forever.

Wow! This book was worth waiting for! It initially got lost in the mail, but finally found its way here. I loved reading it!

The story is romantic, but it's not a romance. You may have to read it to figure out what that means. It's the story of a New York editor who finds a mystery on her desk. The quest to solve it leads her back to her childhood home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. It brings her face to face with a reclusive and angry author and gets her emotions all tangled up with a longing to help the impoverished children of her community of origin to escape as she did.

I loved the themes of individuality, family, community, ancestry, and history. I also enjoyed learning about the Melungeon people and reading about the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. I appreciated seeing the way that Jen and Evan and Rand and Sarra matured as their stories progressed. Lisa Wingate's book has given me a lot to reflect upon.

Tyndale House Publishers sent me a complimentary copy of The Story Keeper in exchange for this honest review. I gladly recommend it to you!

Once again Lisa has woven two stories together, one from the past and one from the present, into a story that transcends time and cultures and traditions. Beautifully told with exquisite detail and many words of wisdom that will stay with you for a long time. I just love the way Lisa tells a story and the way she makes it so practical as well. Will continue to read any and all things she writes, because she does not disappoint.

    The Story Keeper Book Review

The Story Keeper by Lisa Wingate is an intriguing story within a story. The past and the present are woven together and the relationships are intertwined in unexpected ways.

The main character, Jen Gibbs, is a new editor for a major publishing house. She finds an old manuscript on her desk that captures her attention. Not only does the story grab hold of her, but the connection to her past scares her a bit. She ends up going back to more than she bargained for. She learns more than she expects. And she finds more than she dreamed of. Its a journey filled with emotion, mystery, and hope.

The Story Keeper is filled with nuggets of truth, quotes youll want to keep. The stories are captivating and will give you an appreciation of all that life is.

When I read a Lisa Wingate book, it's always on two levels--one for the

engaging story, the other for the beautiful prose. Neither disappointed

with "The Story Teller". A story of cultures intersecting, lost things

found, secrets revealed, historical mysteries, newfound purpose and a hint of romance. A winning

combination for any book. I found myself sneaking moments to read--getting

up early, finding a quiet place at lunch and, of course, staying up late.

In this story within a story, Lisa captured how I felt when she wrote of the mysteriously found

manuscript entitled, "The Story Teller: "The "Story Teller" beckoned, seeming to have an understanding

of its power. It whispered unrelentingly as the day continued..Rand and Sarra flickered through my thoughts like a leaf shadows against a window, parting, then flickering, then parting again, stealing my attention."

"The Story Teller also reminds each of us that we have a story. With that story comes the responsibility to share it, to pass it along to our family. "Our stories are powerful. They teach, they speak, they inspire. They bring about change. But they are also fragile. Their threads are so easily broken by time, by lack of interest, by failure to understand the value that comes of knowing where we have been and who we have been...when we lose our stories, we lose ourselves."

And as in all of Lisa's books we see two things 1, That there is always an opportunity to change, to become better. "Remember that no matter how many wrong choices we've made in the past, we can always decide to make the right ones today The past need not determine one moment of the future." And 2, God's role in our lives: "The threatening God of my youth... might instead be a God of both purpose and provision. That He might have been looking after me all these years, laying down a path while I worked to convince myself that I was going my own way."

This book wasn't nearly long enough, I didn't want to give up the characters and their lives.
