John grew up in the Netherlands, but developed a great love for America as a young boy by looking at pictures in Life magazine, watching western movies on the big screen, and seeing Father Knows Best on television. His dreams and fantasies about someday living in America became a reality in 1962 when, at the age of eighteen, he arrived on the shores of this beautiful land. John’s great love for his country persists to this day. He is a retired soldier and Vietnam War veteran. He lives with his wife, Janneke, in south side Virginia. They have three grown sons and one grandson.
