Product Description

Oaklahoma State Representative Sally Kern was vilified in national and social media for a courageous conservative stand on moral values. On January 10, 2008 she explained that the founding fathers believed Christian principles would lead to:
  • a civilized society,
  • individual self-government,
  • good citizens,
  • the elevation of learning,
  • and a cohesive value system.

In discussion of the final point to a liberal activist group, she triggered vehement rage. This grandmother, former high school teacher and pastor's wife reached a stark epiphany reading her 'stoning' through hate mail and vulgar feedback from the radical left: social conservatives must be ready to take a stand or risk be silenced forever.

Publisher's Description

This book is about Sally Kern, District 84 House of Representatives member from Oklahoma, and her desire to see America return to the conservative principles that guided the nation’s founders. In January 2008, the pastor’s wife and former high school teacher gave a speech to a Republican club in Oklahoma City explaining that the founding fathers believed Christian principles would lead to a civilized society, individual self-government, good citizens, the elevation of learning, and a cohesive value system. While explaining the fifth benefit, a cohesive value system, she told of a group of wealthy homosexual activists who threatened the nation’s moral fabric by attempting to unseat seventy conservative politicians who opposed their agenda. Clips from the speech later were posted on YouTube, generating more than 2 million hits and leading to what she describes as a media "stoning." That didn’t stop her from winning re-election or from continuing her calls for America to return to the conservative principles that made it great. In this book she warns that there is danger ahead if social conservatives don’t preserve the nation’s foundations of morality, truth, and tolerance. She issues a cry for conservatives to stand for their freedom now before they no longer have the right to do so.

Author Bio

Sally Kern was first elected to the Oklahoma State House of Representatives on November 2, 2004. Sally and her husband, Dr. Stephen D. Kern, a Southern Baptist minister, were married in 1970 and have two grown sons, one daughter-in-law, and one grandson. Prior to her election, Sally taught school about 20 years. Since Sally is an educator, her priorities in the House revolve around education, and she has served on various education-related committees in the House. Sally received a B.A. in sociology from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1971 and received her teacher certification in social studies with an emphasis in government from East Texas State University in 1986. After her first session in office, Sally was voted "Outstanding Lawmaker of the Year 2005" by the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee (OCPAC) for her conservative voting record. In April of 2008, Sally was honored as the first ever recipient of the Family Research Council’s (FCR) "Champion of Faith, Family, and Freedom Award."

Sally Kern, a member of the Oklahoma State House of Representatives came to National attention in early 2008 after clips from a speech given before a group of Republicans was posted on YouTube generated more than 2 million hits. This resulted in a surge of hate mail and media coverage.

"The Stoning of Sally Kern" is written in an effort to challenge the reader to recognize the principles that have made America great and to advance a Christian world view that motivates them to defend these principles.

The book includes the full text of:

    • The Transcript of the January 10, 2008 speech

    • The Oklahoma Citizens' Proclamation for Morality

    • A Pictorial review of some of the highlights of Kern's activities

    • Relevant Thoughts and Quotes from America's God and Country: Encyclopedia of Quotations, compiled by William J. Federer

    • A Resource List of Suggested Reading

Kern's writing is compelling. She writes with a fervency of conviction. Her book will be welcomed by readers involved in the "battle" she describes, thought extreme by other firm believers, less vocal in their stance, and ridiculed by opponents of her cause. Kern's experience is a reminder of the responsibility, impact and influence that go with being in the political arena. Misinformation leads to misunderstanding.

I received a complimentary review copy from the publisher. My review reflects my personal observations and opinions. As Reviewed for Midwest Book Review.
