The first time I read this novel, I was in a dry period in my life. God reached into my heart right through the pages. It was one of the few times in my life when I experienced a novel rather than merely reading it. Buechner transform his readers into the heart of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob's story. We get inside their skin and find our own sinfulness and God's grace which greater than all our sins. What an awesome book!
