Will she join the trek to Dawson or stay the winter on an ice-locked steamship full of strangers? Buck Lewis is folk lore in the flesh, but his heart has been rendered asunder. In the land of snowflakes two roads converge. Will he choose the road less traveled?

Submitted: July 29, 2010 Tell us a little about yourself. Born and raised in Vincennes, Indiana, Jamie is a preacher's daughter. Road trips with her dadto and from Bible studies across Indianawere filled with talks of things beyond earths bounds - creation and the fall, God and Jesus and the rapture, the earthly walk compared to the spiritual walk, and how we are born for more than what we can see or touch. The highlight of those nights was stopping at a truck stop in the middle of the night where her dad would spend a little of the offering basket on two slices of pie and a couple of Cokes. Nothing ever felt so special as a middle of the night slice of pie with her dad. And nothing could stop the writing pouring out of her. Poems, short stories, skits and song lyrics later, Jamie grew up and married. When her eldest son turned five she decided to try her hand at novels. Snow Angel was released by B&H Publishing Group in September 2007 and won the USA Book News Best Books 2007 Awards winner, and 2008 RITA Awards® Best First Book finalist. It was the beginning of her dream career. Jamie has since written several books to great acclaim. Jamie and Tony have been married for twenty-two years and live in Indianapolis, Indiana with their three sons and a giant of a dog named Leo. If she could only say one thing to her readers it would be, "Live the dreams God has destined you for!" What was your motivation behind this project? The Snowflake started as a short story. I wrote it the same time I wrote my first book, Snow Angel. And like Snow Angel, it is set in Alaska during the gold rush. It was such a joy to revisit the Alaskan gold rush setting and put a Christmas spin on it! What do you hope folks will gain from this project? As the story developed, I realized that the main theme was loneliness. I think we all have feelings of loneliness at one time or another. And some people, sadly, are truly alone. Can you imagine having no one to spend Christmas with? Ellen struggles with feeling alone in the world. Oh, she has some friends, some co-workers, etc. but she wants that connection with another person that is soul deep. She wants Buck! And while God is present in her life, sometimes He feels close and sometimes He feels distant. I think most of us can relate to that too. I hope by the end of the story, people are filled with warm, Christmas time feelings of hope in the birth of our Savior and the joy of Ellen finding her own unique story.
