Product Description

"Mack" Philips took his three children on a family camping trip while his wife visited her sister. Just as they were about to leave the campsite, the two older kids decided to take a last canoe ride before heading home. As their canoe overturned, and Mack went to help them, his back was turned and the unspeakable happened. Mack's youngest daughter,Missy, was abducted by a known child predator. After a massive search, evidence of Missy showed up at an abandoned cabin. Although they never found her body, everyone knew the worst had happened. For the next four years "a great sadness" fell over Mack and his family, until a note from God showed up in his mailbox. What happens next will move you to a greater understanding of God's unfailing love for us all.

Publisher's Description

Mackenzie Allen Phillips's youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.

Two people gave this book to me as a gift - after reading just a few pages, I threw them both away. Definitely not a book based on true Christianity and not something that should be suggested to unbelievers - it will only confuse them.

This book may not be a terribly written work of Fiction. However, this IS a book of FICTION! The slippery slope is reading something like this and expecting it to really guide you to biblical truth. This book holds many fallacies that may cloud your judgement when looking into God's perfect Word.

I should think those of true, strong, Christian faith would not be so interested in reading this. I also think it is dangerous for an immature Christian to be reading such a thing. May you enjoy reading and hold it to the light of God's truth to see if what you are reading is pleasing in His sight.

Be sure of this, that there is ONLY ONE WAY to the Father and that is through His Son Jesus Christ. May you truly accept Him into your life as Lord and Savior, so that you may be with Him and His Father in Heaven for eternity.

First read the book shortly after it was first published. Very pleased to say the book had, and still has, a huge and positive impact on my life. Provided me a much needed path for a very personal journey into forgiveness of self, and of others. Since that first reading I have enjoyed several subsequent reading to revisit and experience that path of forgiveness. I highly recommend the book and have distributed many many copies to family and friends.

LOVED this book! The book has some interesting components to it in regard to how the author portrayes God at times. Some could make these portrayals controversial though I care not to and enjoyed the book as a written art form. The book was written with much thought and will make the reader think as well. I had my 14 year old daughter read it. Though she was alittle resistant to read something her mom suggested to her, it turns out that The Shack is now one of her favorite books! I did not order the Study Guide to the book though I wish I had so my daughter and I could've discussed it in detail. A GREAT book for an adult or teen book club or church group --much opportunity for group discussion/literary analysis. This book will make you laugh and cry. Allows you an opportunity to virtually visit with God and I found myself never wanting to end that visit. Really needs a sequel. Very powerful.
