pendlebear4 Stars Out Of 5Nice StoryFebruary 21, 2014pendlebearQuality: 5Value: 5While this book is geared toward the young reader, I nevertheless enjoyed reading about a curious 13-year old Amish girl and her desire to solve a mystery. When Bekah's cousin, Amanda, is sent to live with Bekah's family, no one will tell Bekah why. She pieces together that Aunt Caroline has left Amanda & her father but still does not know why. Amanda does not want to be there and she does everything possible to not get involved in the Yoder's activities. Meanwhile, a mysterious old man moves into the vacant farm next door and Bekah sees him digging holes in his backyard late at night, obviously burying things. Even though the girls are warned to stay away, they cannot help trying to find out what Mr. Harvey has buried, which results in Mr. Harvey's son kidnapping Bekah because he thinks she knows where his money is buried. Amanda saves the day, calls her father back in Pennsylvania, then the police. Turns out Mr. Harvey's son is an escaped convict and very mean. Eventually, Amanda learns to love living with Bekah's family and we are told the reason why her mother left. All in all, a very enjoyable story and a nice change of pace.
Cara PutmanIndianaAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Job Well DoneApril 14, 2011Cara PutmanIndianaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleMeets Expectations: 5Rebekah Yoder is a very curious girl. Her favorite books are Nancy Drew and she's always ready for a new mystery. Then a mystery comes to Midfield and she decides to figure it out along with the reluctant assistance of her cousin Amanda. My ten year old really enjoyed the first book. And she dove right in to this title. She enjoys these books because at every break it jumps to a different character's perspective. According to my daughter, the mystery could have used a little more intensity, but she still enjoyed the book very much. She's a Nancy Drew fan and in her words used to a little more suspense. My daughter loved the characters and that's what kept her coming back. Still she read it in a few days and can't wait for the next one to release.

This time the main character is Rebekah Yoder. This book though book two in a series can stand alone and book one doesn't need to be read first. In this book Caleb Mullet who helped his sister in a mystery in book one appears again trying to help figure out the mystery in this book. Fuller weaves a story that makes you think you are right there watching it happen. Your tween will love this Amish based mystery. Kids between 8-12 and up will love this book. They are in need of more books like this that are clean and fun to read.

i blog 4 books4 Stars Out Of 5December 8, 2010i blog 4 booksThe Secrets Beneath by Kathleen Fuller combines great young adult fiction with a little mystery and intrigue. Rebekah sees a strange man checking out the house next door. She "spies" on him several times and is more curious every time she sees him. To add to the drama, Caleb, an annoying boy at school, wants to help her figure out what's going on and her cousin comes to live with Rebekah's family for the school year. Will they be able to solve the mystery? Will Rebekah learn what's troubling her cousin?
The Secrets Beneath is a great young adult fiction novel. Fuller gives fantastic insight into life in an Amish community. The writing style is fairly simple and provides a quick, easy read. Most importantly, though, the author teaches valuable lessons through the antics of Rebekah and Caleb. I would definitely recommend this book and others in the Mysteries of Middlefield Series to tween/young teen readers.
I received a free copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for my fair and honest review.
Edna Tollison5 Stars Out Of 5Great Amish book for young girlsNovember 15, 2010Edna TollisonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is the second book in the series "The Mysteries of Middlefield". I was loved the book because I love to read about the Amish. The story is about Bekah, a nosy, young Amish girl who often gets into a lot of trouble by wanting to know everything. When a new neighbor moves in next door and her cousin Amanda suddenly moves in with the family she is really trying to figure it all out. Amanda did not want to be there, but as her mom has left and her day was trying to get her to come home, he thought she should so live with her aunt and uncle for awhile. But she does not try to get along with the family, and this left Beckah trying to figure out what the new neighbor was burring in his yard in the middle of the night.
The girls learn about the power of prayer and the importance of doing what the adults told them to do. Bekah's curiosity lands them in a dangerous situation when her parents went to town and left the girls at home by them self and the neighbor left also. As Amanda had started to fit more into the family she went into the neighbor's yard also but had went to find a shovel, that is when things begin to get dangerous for Bekah.
I enjoyed the book. The suspense made you want to keep reading as I wanted to know also what was Mr Harvey "the neighbor" was burring, I am nosy also and could imagine all types of things. I read the first book in this series and have read others by Kathleen Fuller, she is a great author.
I received this copy of the book from BookSneeze. All opinions are my own.
