Publisher's Description

“Quick in the saddle and fast out of town.” Watch one of America’s most remarkable heroes come alive through fast-paced prose and gripping storytelling.

He’s Famous for his Ride.  He’s Essential for So Much More.

The story of Paul Revere is the story of the American Revolution.

Always smack dab in the thick of things, he was an ordinary citizen living in extraordinarily turbulent times. Revere played key roles in colonial tax fights and riots, the infamous Boston Massacre, the Tea Party, the Battle of Lexington and Concord, and even the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. In this fast-paced, dramatic account, Paul Revere’s life pulses with energy as author Joel J. Miller explores his family and church life along with his revolutionary contribution as a spy, entrepreneur, express rider, freemason, and commercial visionary.

“The story of Paul Revere—a hero of Massachusetts, a hero of America—was never more timely. Nor has it ever been better told than by Joel J. Miller. The Revolutionary Paul Revere gallops along with all the drama and intrigue of a great novel, highlighting what makes Revere so essential in the story of America’s founding and its growth as a force for freedom in the world. This is a vibrant, vital, and wonderful story.”

The Revolutionary Paul Revere by Joel J. Miller is an essential biography for any Founding Fathers collection. Paul Revere is best known for his midnight ride made famous by Longfellow's poem, but Revere played a vital role in America's quest for independence. He didn't have family ties going back to the Mayflower like John and Sam Adams nor was he wealthy like George Washington or Thomas Jefferson. Revere's story is that of the everyman who was angered by the unfair British taxes and practices and wanted to do something about it. Miller's writing has real flair that brings two hundred year old events to life. Readers will quickly come to understand the real Paul Revere and his role in the Revolutionary War. He was a brilliant entrepreneur who developed one of the first copper mills in the US and wasn't far more than just a silversmith. His cartoons and engravings inspired colonists because of their symbolism and the emotion he captured. I've read several other biographies of our Founding Fathers, but Revere is the first who seems like an average man, someone most Americans can relate to. Miller's writing makes it an enjoyable read and as well as an important one to understand how the son of a French Huguenot became one of the most famous men of the Revolutionary Era.

In homeschool circles, it is common to hear about reading "real books" to learn about history. The idea is that we remember stories better than dry facts on a textbook page.I always hated history in high school; I thought it was boring and pointless. Somehow I learned how to get the right grades without really learning a thing:What is the answer to "Who made the midnight ride to warn the British are coming?" - Paul Revere. Check. Test over. But who was this man? Where did he come from? What compelled him to do this?In school, The Boston Massacre was reduced to learning a picture in a textbook. But did this really just happen out of nowhere? How does something like this occur?Joel Miller transformed my view of the American Revolution by taking me into Boston and making me an observer in the community. I became familiar with the streets, the sights, the sounds, and even the smells. I knew who the movers and shakers were in the community and where they lived in town. I learned about the churches, the pastors, the conflicts. I learned how Paul Revere grew up, what kind of family he had, and who he did business with. I was amazed at how a story could be pieced together from simple accounting records. For example, Paul's character is seen when he does business with his political adversaries. The records of his income from year to year reveal the times of struggle in his life. Finally, I appreciated that this was a nonfiction book in the form of a story. I am not a heavy novel reader, but I do appreciate the value of learning history through a story. This book gave me the best of both worlds and made the real story of a man who contributed so much to our history come alive. If you are longing to really learn and love history, this book is a great place to start.I received a copy of this book through Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze program.

Paul Revere was much more than just a horse rider warning of the British coming, as seen in this biography of his life, written by Joel Miller. The Revolutionary Paul Revere documents his life from its beginnings, through his apprenticeship as a silversmith, onto what formed his life as an adult. His part in the American Revolution was much more than I have ever imagined. He was the most exceptional common man who embodied the spirit of independence. This book reads as easy as a novel, which is not always the case with historical writing. Joel Miller kept my interest from beginning to end, never hitting a slow spot. Paul Revere is an inspiring example for today to those who can identify with a man who didn't let his common place in life keep him from making a huge impact. He could have just been a good silversmith. My favorite quote from the book would have to be, "There is no greater destroyer of wealth than misguided government." I am very grateful to the Blogger Book Review program by Thomas Nelson Publishers for supplying me with a complimentary copy of this book.

Listen up homeschoolers and history teachers. This one is for you! Ever wonder what it was like to grow up in the times of the American Revolution? Joel J. Miller brings us into that world via Paul Revere. This biography starts out describing Pauls roots and goes through his fathers and his life. The outline of this book shows Pauls fathers humble beginnings and ends with a testament to Pauls faith and strength in his later years.Talk about a long read. There is so much information and so much to take in that it took me longer than normal to read through The Revolutionary Paul Revere. However, this book not only gives great history about the man, but about the time period it self. That is why I highly recommend this book, especially if you are homeschooling your children. This is perfect for an upper level history class or an add-on for summer reading.

Paul RevereIf you like reading about the American Revolution and its heroes, then The Revolutionary Paul Revere by Joel J. Miller is the book for you. The book reads like a novel and follows the life of Paul Revere from the immigration of his family in 1716 to his death in 1818. The little stories within the big picture painted by Joel Miller were fascinating to me. Accounts like Pauls determined effort to raise his familys social standing, his involvement with the Masons and how he longed to pick a fight with the British, all made for great reading.Although not a text book, I would recommend this book for anyone to get a private glimpse into a true American spirit. His exploits, mostly unheralded, should be part of any study of that time period. I plan to have my kids read it to add to their knowledge and appreciation of the Revolutionary heroes and their sacrifices.Disclosure: I received this book free in exchange for a review. I am not required to write a positive review, just a truthful one.
