There are many voices in this world telling us how we should think of ourselves. Television and the media pat pictures of perfection that are a far cry form God's perspective on who we really are. It is amazing how often we believe these lies and live as though they were true. But they're not true. Not God's truth.
In The Real Me, contemporary singer/songwriter Natalie Grant shares how a distorted self-image pushed her to a destructive eating disorder. Whether the story involves an eating disorder, drug addition, sexual promiscuity, or simply "acting out," Natalie reminds us that we are not alone in the journey of life. No matter what happens or what we look like, God loves us just as we are.

Teenage girls and soccer moms. Housewives and corporate executives. Young professionals and those who are retired. No matter their professions or responsibilities, women of all ages and all walks of life often struggle with an all-consuming issue-self-image. We as Americans are continually obsessed with the grass-is-greener, anything-else-is-better-than-what -we-have philosophy. And that is never truer for women than when it comes to our bodies and our self-images. The media and the world around us tell us that we should be perfect in every way. But this kind of scrutiny and obsession with perfection leaves women feeling unloved, unattractive, frustrated, and even depressed.
In The Real Me, contemporary Christian singer and songwriter Natalie Grant is on a mission to especially help young women deal with this struggle and to find acceptance in how God created them. And this struggle is something that Natalie understands fully-she gives the reader an inside look at her own struggle with image issues that led her on the path to bulimia. In acknowledging her pain and sharing her struggle, she offers practical help and hope to women of all ages.
Four-time Grammy nominated Natalie Grant is a top-selling Christian & Gospel artist with over 3 million in career sales. The Gospel Music Association has named her Female Vocalist of the Year 5 times and she has had multiple number 1s on the Billboard charts. Beyond music, in 2005 Natalie co-founded Hope for Justice International, an organization that identifies, rescues, and restores victims of human trafficking. Natalie resides in Nashville, TN with her husband, producer/songwriter Bernie Herms and their three children: twins Grace and Bella, and their youngest, Sadie.
331836Toronto, ON CanadaAge: 18-24Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5I love Natalie, but not this bookJanuary 18, 2012331836Toronto, ON CanadaAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 1As a fan of Natalie Grant for the past 4 years, i was excited to see this book at a garage sale. When I got home and read it, I wanted my dollar back. honestly, the book looks so small and short that you could finish it in a single sitting, but who would? It is so boring, for one. most of it is just Natalie's story, and honestly, it makes her sound like a selfish brat. I don't understand her story, and most people won't be able to relate to her. She was smart, pretty and popular and had an eating disorder. Usually that's not how eating disorders work-it's girls who are insecure and are not liked by many. There is very little spiritual truth in this book, most of it is just fortune-cookie advice. I'm not saying its non-spiritual, its just not very deep. So unless you're less than 12, you won't benefit from reading this book.

Megan5 Stars Out Of 5February 8, 2008MeganWow! And once again, I say wow! This was one of those books that I really had a very difficult time putting down. Throughout a lot of the book, I had to wonder if it was still talking about Natalie, or if it was really talking about me. This is definitely a MUST READ for any girl struggling with perfectionism and/or self-image issues, whatever they may be. Very good book Natalie! God has definitely blessed you and I am so thankful for that!
