The #1 international bestseller! This 40-day spiritual journey will help you understand why you are alive and Gods amazing plan for you both now and for eternity. Winner of the Gold Medallion Book Award and Christian Book of the Year Award. "Excellent for Homeschool Use"
Pastor of Saddleback Church, a Southern Baptist mega-church in southern
California with weekly attendance of more than 15,000, Warren now applies his
highly successful "purpose-driven" framework, developed in the best-seller The
Purpose-Driven Church, to individual experience. The same principles Warren
has taught to thousands of pastors to help churches be healthy and effective
can also drive lives, he says. The book argues that discerning and living five
God-ordained purposes-worship, community, discipleship, ministry and
evangelism-is key to effective living. His 40 short chapters are intended to
be read over 40 days' time, giving readers small pieces of his
purpose-discovering program to chew on. Warren certainly knows his Bible. Of
800-plus footnotes, only 18 don't refer to Christian Scripture. He
deliberately works with 15 different Bible translations, leaning heavily on
contemporary translations and paraphrases, as an interesting way of plumbing
biblical text. The almost exclusively biblical frame of reference stakes out
the audience niche for this manual for Christian living. It's practical yet
paradoxically abstract, lacking the kind of real-life examples and stories
that life-application books usually provide in abundance. The book has flaws
editing might have fixed. People are quoted without being identified, and
subheads simply repeat lines of text, which tends to make the prose sound too
simple. This book is not for all, but for those needing a certain kind of
scriptural rock, it is solid. (Oct.) Forecast: Warren's The Purpose-Driven
Church has sold more than a million copies for Zondervan, and has spawned a
whole ministry as churches try to implement its principles for growth. Expect
high sales for this long-awaited follow-up, which has an initial print run of
just over 500,000 copies. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.

Once in a generation a book comes along that explains it all in a way that makes us say – finally – I get it! Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, has given us the book that is easily the Mere Christianity of its time.
“I don’t know about you, but questions like “What on earth am I here for?” and “What’s it all about?” were the ones on my mind for years before I finally met my Maker – and thankful I didn’t have to wait for the last minute to do it! Drawing upon his years in ministry with thousands of people, Rick has learned that these questions are basic to all of us, in every generation. And he offers answers in words and concepts that we all can understand.” – Peggy Matthews-Rose, Christian Book Previews.com

Reviewed by Jonathan Johnson (New Britain, CT), January 08, 2010 This book is awesome. I finished my own study of this book after receiving Christ, and this book is great at helping me understand what my purpose as a Christian is. This is very spiritual based and Christian principles & Scripture based, not just another prosperity or self help book. Very good read! 5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Debra O'toole (Concordia, KS), December 21, 2009 Five yrs ago at the funeral of a friend who died too young (28), I found out she was reading this book. And for me it was the best time to have read it. The facts are ref/by the author to the Christian Bible so it can be understood along the guidelines of our present day lives.I had others in my family having life problems that affected me and the book really helped me through them. When my childhood friend's mother died I sent her one for comfort. Recently I bought others as Christmas gifts. I have purchased at least five and currently have others in mind to buy them for. I think the book is outstanding in explaining and comforting in all areas of our lives as is The Bible. However for some who may not be church attenders currently and also maybe reluctant to read the Bible may be more comfortable reading this book.I highlight alot in mine to return for reference to various helps. As soon as I can afford a few more more I will purchase more to have to distribute to those I think will use them. Also this book is kind of a way to get people thinking about God in their lives that maybe never have or have just not recently. I myself don't attend church as much as I should either. My thoughts as long as you believe in God and try to be a good example by helping others that is what God judges us on. In my 57 yrs of life I have read and learned through church the major way judgment is going to be, how we treat others (first), not ourselves as #1. I hope this helps others to read this book, because once read it is a domino affect to the Good Word to others. A 100% satisfied reader 3.5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Charlene Bergman (Fort Recovery, OH), November 30, 2009 I purchased these books for our Why Catholic group to read and discuss. I also have given them as gifts as I think it is an awesome book. I have read it 2 times already and plan to read it again when Lent starts. Wonder book, great for discussions! 5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Barbara Mccann (Pasadena, MD), November 30, 2009 This book is easy to read and understand. (There is a "shorter" version ... a synopsis... that I found after I started reading the whole book. The shorter version is a good place to start before jumping into the expanded version.) Nevertheless I am enjoying reading and studying the material presented in each chapter. I find the various bible references to be especially helpful. It's a book I will read again and again. 5 out of 5 stars
