Publisher's Description

Princess Irene's discovery of a secret stair to the top turret of the castle leads to a wonderful revelation. At the same time, the miner's son Curdie overhears a fiendish plot by the goblins that live below the mountain. But it will take all their wit and courage, and the help of Irene's magic ring, to make sense of their separate knowledge and foil the goblins' schemes.

The Princess and the Goblin is a magnificent book by George MacDonald. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and it's sequel The Princess and Curdie. You can't just read one without the other!

A wonderful fairy tale, but beneath the fairy tale lies much more meaning than at first may appear.

AFTER READING FOR MYSELF, I ESPECIALLY ENJOY READING THIS BOOK TO MY GRANDCHILDREN. ITS COMPOSITION IS BOTH MEANINGFUL AND CHALLENGING FOR ME AND THEM [AGE 8 THRU 14]. IT TAKES PLACE IN THE 1800'S, BUT THE MORAL VALUE HAS A STRONG MESSAGE FOR TODAY.
