The story dates back to the summer of 1870 in a little town called Assurance, Kansas. A new young pastor (Rowe) comes to town to keep the church going and a young lady (Marissa) is stuck working at the town saloon as the town believe she is a lady of the night. The story proceeds as how GOD puts these two lives together for HIS good and a life lesson for people not to judge others by their looks. Rowe and Marissa are total opposites and their upbringing is as opposite as you can get. Other added characters in the town cause problems and make you want to shout at the pages of the book.

This book is a romantic chic book. It is filled with lots of drama, excitement and flows with a fast pace story. I couldn't put it down and while reading you keep cheering for the guy to get his girl. I would recommend this book to all the ladies that enjoy a good book, sitting in a comfy chair, and a cup of tea. Ladies, this one will take the stress of the day away. A must read, and I can't wait for the second one .......

Can this small-town girl trade her tarnished past for a respectable life?

During the hot, windy summer of 1870 in the burgeoning prairie town of Assurance, Kansas, Marissa Pierce is fed up with her abusive boss. She longs to start a new life and is growing weary of convincing townsfolk that she is most certainly not a prostitute.

Civil War veteran and preacher Rowe Winford arrives in town intent on leaving the tragic memories of his deceased family behind. Although Rowe has no plans to fall in love anytime soon, the plans of God rarely match those of man.

Faced with adversity and rejection from the town and Rowe's family, can Marissa overcome her past, renew her faith, and experience the life of love that God has planned for her?

    My Review:

Marissa and Rowe are as different as two people of the opposite sex can be. But one thing they share is the brokenness of their past and the pain that hovers just above the surface. I had to love this story that brought together two people that were so different, and from completely different walks of life. The writing was stellar, and an exhilarating first novel.

The concept of this story is not far-fetched at all, and I thought the premise was lovely. A saloon girl meets the preacher sounds like the unlikeliest of romances, but I can completely see where redemption can be found for both sides to reconcile. With the themes of hope, faith, forgiveness, love and second chances, Boddie's meticulous historical research and heartfelt characters shows us that God sees us through different Eyes and loves us no matter what.

This book was provided by the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review.

I love that this story takes place in the town of Assurance, Kansas. The time is 1870 and former saloon girl Marissa Pierce and new preacher Rowe Winford are both on a journey, and you might say assurance is their goal. Both are in need of confidence as they seek to escape painful pasts and start over.

Despite Marissa's reputation, Rowe is drawn to her, seeing a woman trying to live a better life than the one she's trapped in. Marissa is tough and used to looking out for herself, even though that's meant making some hard decisions. When circumstances force her to depend on Rowe, she battles her own stubbornness and distrust. It's a treat to see this strong but wounded character soften as Rowe proves his loyalty again and again.

Boddie's prairie town setting and contextual details make this novel rich in authentic western flare. It's easy to see this story play out in your imagination like a movie full of distinct characters, meticulous backdrops, and accurate costumes. I think one of the highest compliments to an author's ability is to say that the writing got out of the way and allowed the story to take center stage and that can be said for The Preacher's Wife.

I look forward to the next in the Brides of Assurance series.

I really enjoyed this read, and am so glad their is another book to come.

The story begins with Rowe Winfred arriving in Assurance, KS. He has a chance meeting with a lovely woman, Marissa Pierce. She works at the local Bar, that offers dancing, gambling, and other sordid pursuits. The time period here is just after the Civil War.

He finds her to be a challenge, but others think she is a soiled dove, she is judged for where she works. I think I would be feeling the same about her, I know it is wrong to judge, but would I want my son keeping company with a woman who works where she works? No! She has a bad reputation, even though circumstance have made her end up where she is. She wants out!!

Will this Minister be able to keep his job, if he ends up in a relationship with Marissa? Will she be able to break free, and if she does, at what price?

We meet some interesting other characters in this book, and one is a very spoiled young lady, Sophie. She has a fellow, Dusty, that is smitten for her, but she has eyes for the Minister. She is in the next book in this series, and I can't wait to read that.

I received this book through First Wild Card Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

The Preachers Wife was an inspiring story of the healing power of grace, offered both by God and His children to those so desperately in need.

Both Marissa and Rowe have experienced brokenness and despite the difference in their lives and the constant reminder's, not always subtle, from the "Christians" of the town that Rowe shouldn't associate with a woman like Marissa he is drawn to her.

Marissa is no longer able to believe in her personal worth or even hope for the chance to be free from the guilt and shame , so she spurns the new preacher's good intentions towards her. That is until a brutal attack from her angered employer leads her literally to his doorstep and temporarily frees her from her past life's hold.

With the care of a Godly older couple, with Rowe's love {that Marissa cannot yet admit to even herself} and with the growing feeling that God {who she no longer trusts} wishes to make Himself known, this might be Marissa's second chance.

Thank you to The Booketeria for my review copy of the Preacher's Wife. I am looking forward to "A Windswept Promise" the second book in the Brides of Assurance Series. Which will continue the story of a two characters introduced in The Preachers Wife.
