S.A. from Tx5 Stars Out Of 5Book Club LoveSeptember 5, 2014S.A. from TxQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I read this book as part of the book club at my church. This book was very well written and believable. The main character's life is transformed by people from the past and the present in a small town on the N.C. Outer Banks. Everyone in my book club really liked it!
i blog 4 books3 Stars Out Of 5Slow start, beautiful messageAugust 31, 2014i blog 4 booksThe Prayer Box is a unique story. Tandi is trying to start over after a series of disasters. Upon arriving in the Outer Banks and discovering treasures in Iola Anne Poole's house, the Lord begins to work in Tandi's life showing her the power of prayer.
I was intrigued by the premise of the story, but found it difficult to connect with Tandi's character. I think that probably contributed to the slowness of the book for me. However, the overarching message was beautiful. And about halfway through, I got really interested in seeing how the book would conclude. [3 stars]

Like society the book is not full of 'perfect' characters so you can see them change and grow throughout the book.

She runs from Dallas to North Carolina to escape a painful past to a place she felt safe when she was a child. She finds a home with Iola Poole on a temporary basis but does not allow herself to get to know her. Then, when Iona dies, Tandi agrees to help clean out her home and in doing so, she discovers 81 boxes of prayers. As Tandi reads them, she not only discovers how strong and faithful her landlady was, but how loving God is. As she gets to know her landlady, she makes a decision about what kind of person she wants to be not only for herself, but also for her children. I found this book to be heart-warming and it made me ask myself the same question: what kind of woman do I want to be and what kind of example do I want to leave for my family.
