Like most people who are attracted to the Philokalia, I was introduced to the existence of this book when I read "The Way of a Pilgrim." His copy was a single volume, which, judging from the size of these volumes was one big heavy book to be lugging around Russia or had print so tiny that I could not read it. Be that as it may, my biggest complaint with this series is that they picked a somewhat archaic type style reminiscent of those used in the late 19th century. One should also keep in mind that this Compilation of texts from different writers is not systematic. It is an adequate introduction to the writings of the Orthodox Fathers, but it is not a manual of prayer per se. Those desiring to use it as such should do so under the guidance of a Spiritual Director.I cannot speak to the accuracy of the translation, but I found the text to be easy to read (for something written by Greek Fathers).
