Product Description

In the future you can transfer your consciousness into an artificial body--known as personifid--and cheat death indefinitely. But human beings aren't the only ones who want those bodies--Interterrestrials have found that personifids will house them very well, too.

Ashley is trapped in San Edhem, a city where Interterrestrials and humans struggle for control of the personifids. Can her siblings, Aphra and Antha, rescue her before she is lost to them forever?

In, The Personified Invasion, the world has advanced long past using real bodies-- at least, most of it has. Intraterrestrials, or Inters for short walk the streets. They claim to bring higher knowledge and all good things to the backward civilizations on earth. They claim that religion and worship are chains that bind and that you must move beyond them. They claim to be a higher life form. Emotional and physical suppressant and inflation patches, are common play for those that still have real bodies. If you need more strength? Tranquility? Peace? Just slap on the patch. Nevertheless, most have become personified, having their soul transferred to a fake body leaving themselves behind. You can look like anything you want, never really become hungry, hot, cold, it's perfect—isn't it? ‘The Followers' believe that the Inters aren't as harmless at they appear and that they are really here to hurt and destroy, could they be right? Could there really be a brooding menace lurking past the beautiful façade?

The Personified invasion, at least to me, embodies Christian speculative fiction. The writing delves into subjects long spurned or forgotten previously and masterfully brings them into connection with the spiritual side of life. I'm naturally skeptical with any book that deals with something akin to aliens_but this book blew that away. At first with a few character names like Antha, and Anphra I worried about telling them apart. But once the story started, no need! Yikes! Mr. Barlett made a real futuristic spell binder complete with characters that are real enough to meet, a setting and plot that will have me dreaming the rest of the day, and some food for thought that will stay with me. Five out of five stars for this book!

Having been addicted to life enhancers for years, Aphra is moody and depressed as she tries to live without them. Her brother, Antha, arrives with great news: he has found their younger sister, Ashley, who theyd been seeking for years. Shes a personifid, which is a soul that has moved into an artificial body. Ashley is somewhere in San Edhem, and Antha needs to go there to find her. He wont let Aphra tag along, however, saying that she would be in danger because she is not a Follower and believer in the Tri-une Soul. In San Edhem, interterrestrials will take control of people who are not protected by the Tri-une Soul. Aphra vents her frustrations to her boyfriend Datricius, who is also a personifid. He dislikes hearing about her brothers fundamental ways. He tells Aphra that Interterrestrials should not be treated in such a way, that people should accept different beings and not judge them. Aphra doesnt know what to believe. When her brother goes missing, she allows Datricius to take her to San Edhem anyway. She must do what she can to help. The theme and premise of this novel is unique and brilliant. Antha was a fun character who I wished was in every scene. I enjoyed the mystery and the setting. I would have liked a bigger climax at the end, something where Aphra brought about a change in her own life, but the novel was still quite enjoyable. Recommended.
