Tell us a little about yourself. I myself grew up overseas in the countries and places described in my books. My parents were missionaries in Colombia. My own childhood was spent canoeing up and down amazonic rivers, flying in Cessna or bumping over narrow unpaved mountain roads to boarding school in Venezuela, hiking up the Andes mountains and into the jungles of South America. My husband Marty and I spent 15 years as missionaries in Bolivia, S.A., where several of my books are set. We have 4 children. In June, 2000, we moved to Miami, FL, when my husband took a vice-president position at the international headquarters of Latin America Mission. I continue to visit many countries in Latin America as I train and mentor developing Christian writers there.
What was your motivation behind this project? My motivation was not only to write an exciting mystery/suspense novel for preteens, but to teach solid Christian values and to open children's minds to a great, exciting world of other peoples and cultures not so different under the surface than our own.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope and pray that through Captured in Colombia and the rest of the Parker Twin Series, children will gain a wider world view than their own neighborhoods . . . that through these books they will be able to feel that they really know people- -children--or other cultures. And that, like Justin and Jenny, they will also learn to share their own faith with people who are different than themselves.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: BOOK DESCRIPTION: "Justin tugged again desperately at his bonds, but there was no more time. The churning gray-brown mud flow was now swallowing the long line of evergreens that shaded the creek only half-a-mile upstream. No longer afraid, he stared in helpless horror as the wave of mud and ice swept down upon the cam . . . " Uncle Pete is in serious danger. The Colombian guerillas want the release of their men who had bombed a Triton Oil facility. In an attempt to gain leverage, the guerillas kidnap Uncle Pete, a high level executive for Triton. Now Justin and Jenny must not only decide whether they can trust a new friend, but they have to find Uncle Pete before a nearby volcano erupts.
