Q: How long a program is this Is it broken into lessons and if so, how many lessons are there. Is it appropriate for homeschooling only 2 students or are the activities set for larger groups?
This is a computer game in which the student experiences the journey of westward migration in the mid-1800s. Each student plays a role in which they make simulated life-challenge decisions about food, finances, and more. It teaches the student concepts in math, language arts and geography. There are 76 pages of additional activities and 4 pages of suggested supplemental resources. Some of these activities do require multiple students, but you could improvise if you wanted to use them with just a few.
There are no lesson plans and there is no set time frame to finish the program. It is intended to be a real-life learning experience to supplement a US history course or just for fun.
Q: In the older version a player could not save as he went. Does this one save?
This version of "The Oregon Trail" will save your progress.
Q: Is this an actual game that kids can play?
Yes, this is the actual game with additional resources, such as lesson plans, printable worksheets, a bibliography suggesting additional activities, hands-on manipulatives, and more.
Q: Is this software compatible with Windows 7?
No, according to the publisher, this is only compatible with systems up to Windows XP.
