This is not a polished, literary work, but rather the very heartbeat of soldiers of Christ out in the battlefield of life-right here in the heart of America. It is a true story of a couple who left their well-to-do California home to establish The Open Door Children's Home and received life's richest reward, that of loving and protecting children. 192 pages, hardcover.
The Open Door
Thanks so much to Mrs. Ragsdale for writing this book. I loved it. My husband, John Hall is the grandson of Phillip and Sally Hall, the ones who donated the cabin, land and the building for the school. My husband and I now actually now own the school building. It was left to my husband by his Dad and Mom, Dennis and Emily Smith Hall, Dennis was a son to Phillip Hall. It was so exciting to read about the history of our home! My husband and I started our married life in this home, so it is very sentimental to me also. I have always been told stories of the Open Door Childrens but this book has even more endeared our home to us. I also loved the pictures of the house and the property, and of my husbands Grandfather, Phillip Hall, who was indeed, a great man.

This book is written about my family on my mothers side. My mother is Emily Hall Dunlap. Phillip and Sally Hall are her Grandparents on her fathers side. Her father is Dennis Hall. I really enjoyed this book and bought 3 others for other family members! My mother has told me stories of the children she remembers meeting when she was in Kentucky. My mother is currently living in the very same house that was the open door childrens home. The same house that Phillip and Sally Hall lived in has unfortunately been sold outside of the family. I would have loved for that house to stay in the family as well. I remember Phillip Hall and Sally Hall, and the smell of fresh baking bread when i was just a wee toddler. My grandparents (nanny and Papa) taking me over to visit them crossing the wood slat bridge by the big barn. In later years my great aunts Bessie and her sister living there. I have many pictures of the sisiters when i had taken my own children to visit kentucky. Thanks for writing and sharing, God Bless you!
