This review was written for The NLT Wayfinding Bible, Paperback.
When I described this Bible to my daughter she said it reminded her of the books my kids used to read where you choose an ending to the book first. That choice determines how the story is read. Choosing a different ending virtually makes each reading a new story. With the Wayfinding Bible the ending is always the same. It's the route that is different! But each journey (route) is exciting and new.

I have taught many ladies Bible classes and also homeschooled my children. When I saw this Bible I was immediately excited by the possibilities for group studies and wished that it had been around in our homeschooling days!

No, I don't always agree with the commentaries along the way but I look at these as discussion starters, not reasons to pass on this book. However, that brings me to my only concern about giving this to a new Christian. While I think this would be an excellent way to guide a newbie through the scriptures, I would be careful to make notations on any comments that you might question. But there again, this would make a great way to mentor someone in the faith as you walk alongside them in their readings.

All in all, I have to say that I love this concept! So far I have followed the Fly-Over Route and really like that the readings are in chronological order. It makes understanding and putting the stories in order in my head so much easier. I find that I'm anxious to get going on my daily Bible readings again. I am looking forward to following the other 2 routes in the months to come!

IMHO, I don't think you will be disappointed in this new way of reading the best book in the world! Take a chance!

This would be a great Bible for boys, the flight concept, could easily transfer to a map or pilots uniform with a sticker or badge for milestones. (Boys in grades 3 or 4 are the hardest age to reach in curriculum, and oh the appeal of the flight, the itinerary, and the images throughout the 40-200 stops!)

The reading teacher in me thinks this is an awesome tool for teaching or modeling how to read and understand the Bible. The built in tools help provide all the key reading strategies for comprehension (connections, imagery, summarizing, clarifying, questions, evaluations, and prediction/inference)

The paths and options are a refreshing way to get an overview of the Bible, and it lets you pick your commitment. (I tried the flyover and didn't succeed as I wanted to read all the special touches and other passages marked on a page.)

The sense of accomplishment and connections could be very empowering to a new Bible reader, and a veteran Bible reader, the New Living Translation is solid yet refreshing perspective.

The Bible is filled with scenic overlooks (signified by binoculars) images and maps for major places, connections of this portion of scripture to other portions read, connections to Christ, to history, and info-graphics to help the reader easily connect the Bible to itself, and help gain perspective.

Each reading has a special introduction, an observation and an exploration to help the reader think through this part of God's Big Story, and these simple inserts could make it easier for a novice to grasp the points without a lot of commentaries, concordances, or tools.

I believe that a Bible scholar could enjoy reading through these commentaries and determining if they would prefer a different connection, add a new theological term, or concept, or leave it as the creators of the Bible wrote it. But it's unique, and it in my book it inspires thinking on many levels.

I believe this Bible has features that could help keep you on track in a group Bible study, but still provide a good overview and some critical thinking for lively discussions. I especially like the infographics and charts.

It is not a Bible that teaches doctrinal terms, theological concepts, it's merely a tool to explore the text of the Bible, get an overview of the Bible, and see topics across the Bible (like Angels, Easter Readings, forgiveness, ...)

I will continue to test this Wayfinding Bible and see how my thoughts change, expand or grow, but the bottom line is, I find it a very useful tool that I want to continue to have on my nightstand with easy access. I was given this book as a part of the Tyndale review team, all opinions are my own.

Life is so good when you get a Bible to review. The Wayfinding Bible is one of Tyndale Publishers latest Bible to come on the market. The NLT if my very favorite translation, so this was right up my alley of reading. This Bible is so unique and the many features will help you navigate God's Word in a new and refreshing way. The Bible offers you three distinct routes to travel through it-talk about interesting. The three routes are: the flyover route which will cover the most important events in the Bible in 50 readings. The next route is direct and covers more of the story throughout history in 200 readings. Last is the scenic route which explores in more depth with 400 readings. Whether you are looking for the big story, trying to read straight through, or prefer to wander, this innovative Bible is for you. They have also included a visual guide that leads you through God's story in human history using the route you choose.

This amazing concept was difficult for me to decide which route I would take. I love reading through the Bible but usually can not do it in a years time. I also don't want to miss anything important so as I start this Bible in January, it will be the scenic route. There are so many cool features in this Bible; lots of pictures, historical markers, side trips, book introductions along with extra information on each page. The observation point and exploration point are on each page and provide additional knowledge about what you read on that page-my personal favorite. My NLT Life Application Bible has been my all time favorite, but the Wayfinding Bible could give it a run for it's money. I already see this Bible as birthday gifts for the family this next year. Best gift to give is a Bible and this one is worth it.

Thanks to Tyndale Publishers for this free copy just for my honest opinion.

This review was written for The NLT Wayfinding Bible, Paperback.
The Wayfinding Bible offers three distinct reading routes for readers of the Bible:

The Flyover Route - 54 readings for a chronological perspective

The Direct Route - 215 readings for a full perspective of the entire Bible

The Scenic Route - 386 readings for a discovery of depth and richness by delving into well-known and not-so-well-known passages.

I chose to use the Flyover route. This route highlighted the key passages and people throughout the Bible, while still allowing me to gain a grasp of this great book from cover to cover. I really enjoyed the format, the key points, the extra tidbits, and the layout of this Bible. On each page is a guide to show me what I read last, what I have to read now, and what I will be reading next. These sections are clearly marked and very easy to follow.

As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, this Bible has several extra tidbits:

    book introductions

    getting your bearings

    historical markers

    scenic overlooks

    side trips

Out of these five extras I especially enjoyed reading the getting your bearings, scenic overlooks, and side trips.

Thank you Tyndale Publishing for allowing me to review this book. I thoroughly enjoyed weaving my way through the Bible in a way that I might not have ever thought of. I recommend this Bible to anyone looking for an engaging format to encourage their reading in the year to come.

    * I received this Bible from Tyndale Publishing and am not being compensated for my review.

I think this is an awesome Bible to head into the New Year with, many start the year with grand plans of reading through scripture but soon fail. In that failure, we tend to just quit. With this Bible, you can choose you plan, it can be realistic for each individual and the extra resources and information it provides along the way will encourage you to keep coming back for more.

I am loving working my way through the Scenic route as I take Old Testament this fall. I recommend this Bible to anyone who wants to dive into scripture and learn. It is also a great resource for families who want to follow a reading plan together for devotions or for an accountability group who wants to read through scriptures together.

I received a free copy from the publisher to review.

Q: Conflict on dates? I'm confused about some of the events on your date lines. For instance, on the first sample page you show the Great Flood prior to 7,000 BC. But on the third sample page you show it at 3,500 BC. Can you clarify? Thanks.

A:

On the first page the Great Flood is listed as a general historical event, early in history, but with no specific date. In the Book of Genesis itself, the date referenced is 3500 BC on the timeline, but no actual date is stated in the study notes.
