John Bunyan (1628-1688), preacher and author, was jailed for his nonconformist preaching. During his imprisonment he devoted himself to Bible study ,reading, and writing. He is widely recognized for his narrative genius and his vigorous, simple, concrete writing style. Besides The Pilgrim's Progress, Bunyan wrote several other books, including Grace Abounding and Holy War.
