How did such a thing come to be? Who were the onlookers, the players, the fakes, frauds, and heroes? What was it like in the Upper Room that night, in the shadows of Gethsemane, or in the Praetorium awaiting Pilate's verdict? What is the meaning of the last words Jesus uttered as He gasped for breath on the cross? What if all the facts you know so well could come alive in your mind and heart as a living story, rather than as a 2000-year-old ancient account?
By piecing together the narrative from the perspective of the participants, John MacArthur invites you to relive the most awesome injustice in the history of man, the unparalleled triumph of the sovereignty of God, and the passion of Christ.

The pieces are in place. The curtain rises for the final act. God is about to die.
To many, the story of Christs crucifixion has become so familiar that it has lost its ability to shock, outrage, or stir any great emotion. In The Murder of Jesus, John MacArthur presents this pivotal moment in the life of Jesus in a way that forces readers to witness this event in all its power. The passion of Christ is examined chronologically through the lens of the New Testament with special attention given to Jesus words on the cross, the miracle that attended the crucifixion, and the significance of Christs atoning work. In doing so, MacArthur relives the most awesome injustice in the history of man and the unparalleled triumph of the sovereignty of God.

Deep and yet clearly understandable, "The Murder of Jesus" graphically describes the final days of our Savior. From the beginnings of the plot by the Jewish religious leaders to do away with Him until He breathed His last on the Cross, the author deals with all of the passion narratives in a harmonious manner. In addition, he discusses the Old Testament prophecies and the predictive words of Jesus Himself in anticipation of the death He would die. The background material that MacArthur includes sheds helpful light on many things that the Scriptures only mention in passing. The one who reads with an eye to detail only wishes that he had better annotated his sources. Whereas lesser writers tend to either slavishly quote the biblical text without explanation or offer interpretations that are without foundation, MacArthur's style is biblically expository and colorful. The section on Jesus' final sayings from the Cross is both devotional and instructive. I have personally found John MacArthur to be at his best when teaching from the Gospels, which is why I highly recommend this book.

Whatever you will not find on its' pages you will most certainly find in "The Murder of Jesus". Truth will out! A totally engrossing read on a mankind transforming event. If you want to know what a true Christian is all about then this is a must read.
Michael Mckoy5 Stars Out Of 5May 5, 2010Michael MckoyThis is an amazing book! I have actually owned it for years. I bought this copy for a new brother who recently received Christ after being an avowed atheist. MacArthur really opens up not only the mission of Christ, but the agony and scheming of all those around him. MacArthur takes the power texts of the Gospels and transforms them into a mystery novel/teaching guide of the last week of Christ's earthly ministry. I would recommend this book to every Christian and non-Christian, no matter where they are spiritually.
