    Book Review by Kim Jones

This book dives into adventure from the very beginning! Opening with a thrilling fishing trip that leads to a high speed boat chase, the action immediately captures the reader's attention!

The Plot: The Murphy teens travel with their father to the Peace River in Florida, to a dig site. Something astonishing is discovered that could rock the scientific world, as well as the Murphy's faith - The Missing Link! The Murphys encounter one mystery after another about this discovery, as well as many challenges to their faith in this action packed story.

A Page Turner! Mystery and adventure is woven skillfully throughout the book. An encounter with an alligator, a kidnapping, a lost treasure and more, will keep readers turning the pages rapidly.

The Real Treasures: Also woven skillfully throughout this book are lessons in good character, faith, and science.

    1. Good Character - The Murphy teens treat each other and others with respect - even though they encounter some situations that make it hard to do so. (I love this! Good examples of kids treating their family and others with respect and kindness are hard to find in the media.)

    2. Faith - The Murphy teens encounter life threatening situations that could shake their faith. However, they meet these challenges with prayer and faith in God.

    3. Science - This book very skillfully discusses many main concepts in the Creation vs. Evolution debate. It is done conversationally, and in a very captivating and interesting manner. While the book is fiction, the evidence for Creation presented in the book is great science.

I really enjoyed reading this book! I read it twice, and enjoyed reading it the second time even more than the first. I believe that teens will find it an interesting, exciting and fun read. Packed with tons of treasure for the heart, soul, and mind, this book is well worth the investment!

** A Literature Study Guide that helps young writers study literary techniques in a fun way is also available with, "The Missing Link: Found." Filled with thought-provoking questions, vocabulary and pictures, this guide digs in deeper to literature and science. It's an ideal addition to a unit on writing, literature or science!

When I first received this book, my 13 year old daughter ran off with it. She was eager to read it, and enjoyed it very much. She kept telling me about the book as we washed dishes, and as we ate dinner. She was drawn into the story, and enjoyed learning more about creation science, which has been fascinating her for the past few months. I sat down to read The Missing Link: FOUND last night. It wasn't difficult for my 13 year old, or myself to read. We both were drawn into the story line, and were interested in the outcome of the plot. The scientific debate between evolutionists and Creation Scientists was informative. The book explained the scientific facts involved in the debate in an understandable way, for older children.Due to the scientific discussions woven into the story, it would not make a good read-aloud for those with a wide age-range of children. Most younger children would lose interest. Families with only upper elementary and junior high age children would enjoy reading it together as a family. However, I think it is most suitable for personal reading for the junior high student. The Missing Link: FOUND is an enjoyable and educational book. The Truth Seeker Mystery Series fills a need for interesting, wholesome, Christian books geared to junior high children. The adventure mystery genre draws the reader in, while educating them about creation science. The authors have found a niche with their emphasis on Creation Science and debunking evolution.I would be glad to add The Truth Seeker Mystery Series to our family bookshelf. It is a good series that my children would enjoy reading -- infinitely better than many of the new series being added to bookstore shelves around the country. I'm looking forward to reading the remaining two books in the series.

What I like: This novel for preteens and young teens is exciting and action-oriented. I love the fact that this book is written by a homeschooled teen -- for teens. I love the fact that Christina and her Mom Felice presented a Christian world view; and outlined several key arguments for Creation and against Evolution. I love the fact that the main characters are two teenage children and their father; all of whom are Christians, pray frequently together, have a heart for the lost, and work together as a team to solve problems and get out danger. I am so glad I don't find any hints of the romance, dating, or preteen social strata typical of this genre. What's My Bottom Line: The Missing Link: Found fills an important gap in the preteen/teen adventure genre. To my knowledge, this is the only book that includes a homeschool family as the main characters and presents a Christian world view. Whether you have voracious readers who need more Christian options, action-oriented boys who struggle to read, or a science loving family, I would certainly buy this book, and have it ready on my shelf. I am really excited to find another source of quality Christian literature for my children.

My children and I have really enjoyed this book and plan to read the next two in the series. It was just such a blessing to finally have a book that my young daughters could identify with the main characters. The book is centered around a modern day home schooling family. It's a mystery action adventure story that really captured my children's interest right from the first few pages. They immediately identified with the characters and fell in love with the fact that the children and family prayed and looked to God for guidance. The common ground of being a home schooled child and a Christian seemed to captivate them more and more with each page that we devoured. As a parent I was very excited to be reading a book that had strong Christian values and morals. It was a very captivating story line that had lots of action in it. My 8 year old is really into mystery novels right now and this element really appealed to her as she attempted to think ahead to solve the mystery! The book also gave way for small studies on various subjects that were presented in the book and intrigued my girls. It sparked their interest several things from salt water fishing, archeology, paleoanthropology and we even did a mini study on gold coins. There is a lot of opportunity in this book to learn about things you may not have yet studied or would like to broaden your studies on.

The book was obviously written for teens. This can make it hard for an adult to review. Written by then-seventeen-year-old Christina Gerwitz, her lack of experience leads to the overuse of adjectives in the story as well as the unbelievability of some of the story line. At first, this kept me from wanting to go further into reading the book.I prefer to finish a book once I start reading it. And I am glad that I finished this one. What started out as difficult to read turned into a pretty good story, especially when considering the age of the author. This story follows brother and sister, Anna and Christian, and their father, Dr. Jack Murphy, as they uncover the mystery surrounding the finding of the supposed "Missing Link." As the story progresses, one finds that they are learning arguments from both sides of the Evolution and Creation viewpoints. This makes this story more than the average teen book. The story continues and you often find the children and their father petitioning our Heavenly Father in prayer. Written from a Christian perspective, you will not have to worry about inappropriate language. The children are homeschooled and are part of a family that has more than the usual American family's two children. And frankly, I find that quite refreshing. This story presents an interesting, easy read for Christian teens and blends together fiction and actual facts. By clicking here you can read more about the story and the author behind it. I also suggest you visit the website Media Angels for other books in the series as well as resources for home education. As with anything, I do encourage you to research for yourself the facts presented in this book.
