This is brief, but very good.

Kidner is a top-notch scholar and gifted writer. He writes from a conservative perspective. If anyone is seeking a brief, reliable, and accessible guide to the message of Ecclesiastes, this is it. As is typical for this series, the commentary is very brief. It only deals with the main message(s) of each passage. For other details, a larger, more comprehensive commentary should be sought. However, this book meets it's stated threefold purpose: "to expound the text with accuracy, to relate it to contemporary life, and to be readable."

A very brief treatment of Ecclesiastes, but very insightful. Derek Kidner does an excellent job explaining the amazing wisdom contained in this under-appreciated Old Testament book. Kidner's writing style is concise, easily understood and smooth-flowing. I only wish it had been more thorough.

One word; Outstanding! I used this commentary with two larger ones for teaching through Ecclesiastes in a small group. Kidner wrote more in this small book than the other two large ones combined. Easy to read, yet has great depth.
