Andrew Maloney in his new book, The Master Song Book One in the Blue Time series published by Whitaker House brings us into the lives of five teenagers and Morsden Forest.

From the back cover: On a cold, stormy evening in Ireland, five teenagers suddenly find themselves lost, separated, and unprepared for a dangerous quest beyond the Veil into Morsden Forest, a secret world hidden from ours. There they must learn to grow, learn to trust, learn to fight, learn to sacrifice, and learn to love in order to rediscover the first of seven lost jewels that contain the ancient verses of The Master Song.

Together with a myriad of the Awakened humanlike animals and plants they will battle wild beasts, wraithlike doppelgangers, and an evil power nearly as ancient as creation itself.

Will they stand strong and discover the virtues they have within themselves? Or will they, too, fall to the Corrupted?

This is an amazing beginning to a highly interesting series. We are, literally, transported to a new world filled with beings that we have not been introduced to before. Mr. Maloney has created Morsden Forest and has crafted this wonderful way of letting us in on the adventure there and who is with us and who is against us. This is a really interesting story filled with twists and turns you just do not see coming. Mr. Maloney makes you care for all the characters, secondary or not, and their journey. I recommend that you dont start this book late at night because it will cost you sleep.

I wasn't sure about this book when I started reading it. I don't read many fantasies, but now I can't wait to read the next verse in this song. Thank you, Mr Maloney.

An old lady and five kids lost in the woods and no one else is home to even miss them. Except they're more that just lost. They've entered some kind of time warp or something.

Any way, they're split up in this very unique place with some very unique inhabitants - some of whom aren't very friendly. And not only that, this is no camp out in an RV.

They have to figure out how to survive while trying to find each other and get back home. They have to deal with unfriendly plants, animals and evil personified. But the Blue Time of the day brings hope of eventually everyone getting back home. There are likely to be tears at the end, so keep that box of tissues handy.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Andrew Maloney

Tell us a little about yourself.  I grew up in the backseat of a car, traveling across the States and abroad with my healing evangelist parents. It gave me lots of time, staring out the window, to come up with some fantastic ideas for stories.

I graduated from the University of North Texas with an arts degree in writing and have ghost-written/edited over a dozen nonfiction books.

Along with my beautiful wife, Christy, I authored Eight Weeks with No Water, the testimony of our second son's miraculous birth.

My first fiction book is The Elementalists, and my high fantasy epic series, Blue Time, is being published through Whitaker House. The first novel in the series, The Master Song, is coming out September 2014.

I live out in the sticks in the cross-timbers area of north Texas with Christy, our two cute boys, Connor and Christian, and two ridiculous dogs, Merlot and Riesling.

What was your motivation behind this project?  When I was young (five or six) my curfew was when the sky turned super-blue as the sun started to set—I called it Blue Time, and it was always my favorite time of the day. While I don’t believe in a “magic hour,” the Celtic folktales have always intrigued me. So when I was, I don’t know, twelve or thirteen, I was sitting in a car at Blue Time, reading a new Lawhead series, The Song of Albion, and I thought, I’d like to write a story about that, the time-between-times. So I had a boy with asthma named Griffin (renamed Nolan in the actual book) with a group of friends (Stu Dewey became Stanley Stewart) and a girl from England (who became Quinn Taylor from Wales)—and they all get stuck in the Celtic Otherworld. Flash forward twenty years, and I added a bunch of stuff about Greenmen, which are “true” myth, but I took a LOT of poetic license with the characterization. After a fashion, this series has been more than twenty years in the making.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I'm not a fan of allegory. I like a story to be written for the story's sake. Nevertheless, I hope the reader not only enjoys the fantasy elements of the story, but also perhaps gleans a little insight about personal growth: dealing with fear, fine-tuning relationships, standing up for what you feel is right, supporting your friends, and fighting against "Corruption" wherever they find it.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  World-building is a treacherous landscape. I think creating not only new characters who have some growth within the book, a pseudo-language, a plot with some tension and danger, but also an entirely new "world" with its own set of rules forced me to grow as a writer. I hope the series continues to get better, and the culmination of finding all seven Verses of the Master Song really blows people away. *fingers crossed*

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  That's tough. Everything from Tolkien to Dostoyevsky to modern works by Clare, Collins, Dekker -- everything everyone else is reading right now. If it's written, I'll read it. For THIS series, probably Lawhead mixed with Lewis, a little Colfer, some Riordan, maybe even a splash of Rowling, I guess.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Pre-orders are being taken now! It's worth your time (says the author shamelessly.)
