Product Description

Meeting Bruce Wilkinson's Prayer of Jabez with his own parody, The Mantra of Jabez, Douglas Wilson mocks the idea that a prayer can magically accomplish what Wilkinson claimed it could. Mocking the context-less, thought-free and deed-free "promise" of the Prayer of Jabez, this little book is perfect for all who decry the shallowness of Health & Wealth preaching. 55 pages, softcover.

This book is hilarious! If you read it side by side to the original Prayer of Jabez, it's clear that the author was very careful in mimicing the style of the original book... sometimes the paragraphs are almost identical! When I read the original, I thought the author jumped to some conclusions, and this book basically says what I was thinking! He makes it clear that it's okay for Christians to use parody to point out flaws in evangelicalism. Our evangelical society needs to wake up to the real world, and this book shows just how shallow we can be sometimes. Also, check out another great parody, RIGHT BEHIND. I had some friends who said the authors could not be Christian because they ridiculed other Christians, but they do not ridicule; they parody.
