Twin siblings Jake and Jennifer aren't exactly thrilled when they learn they are joining their archaeologist father on his "expedition" to Israel. They don't really know him, but because they've lost their mom they have no other choice. Jake isn't terribly excited, but he doesn't seem to mind all that much either. Jennifer is less than pleased, and dreading everything about her new life. Will they be able to accept their dad for who he is - crazy time machine and all? Or is the science he is dabbling in more dangerous than it is worth?

So I'm going to start by saying that this book was absolutely wonderful! I know I'm not a kid anymore, but that didn't make a lick of difference when it came down to enjoying this story! Kids of all ages will appreciate the adventure contained in these pages, and I venture to say that adults will enjoy the thrill of the ride as well. It was a fun book to read, it was unique, it was creative (I mean, how else can I explain Robbie?!) and the twins were absolutely fantastic! Yes, they had their issues (ok, they had some things come up from time to time) but they were dealing with some tough stuff. Highly recommended, and a book I am stashing away for my future children.

Twins, Jake and Jen, endure a move to Israel to stay with a father they barely know all-the-while mourning for their deceased mother.

Bill Myers creates an interesting book for teenagers to learn about trusting God for everything. Cool machines, quirky scientists, interesting facts, silly humor, and spiritual elements make their way creatively throughout the book. I love how the author makes references to the spiritual world of demons, which most authors refrain from, and shows how to handle them biblically.

Whether it be when Jen learns to grow in her relationship with the Lord, getting over the fear of demons, and learning to love, each character's personal problems teaches the reader a lesson.

The twins did some questionable actions including stealing a woman's wig, breaking and entering, and did not receive any consequences. The sometimes overplayed humor seemed to degrade the literary work, but no doubt younger children will love it.

I received this book for free in exchange for this independent and unbiased review.

Finding a book that appeals to a tween yet meets the approval of the parent is often a difficult task. But with the name Bill Myers of the cover of this book you are sure to meet those standards. Kids and adults alike should enjoy this newest adventure by the award winning author.

The story begins shortly after Jake and Jennifer Mackenzie's mother has died in a car accident. The twins have been living with their aunt in Malibu, California but their absentee father has suddenly decided to bring them to live with him in Israel. To say that the twins are reluctant is an understatement.

Another thing that is hard to find is a book that features a strong father figure. This one has that in spades. I really enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between the father and his children. Dr. Mackenzie is such an interesting person and leads an even more interesting life. This eventually appeals to both kids. Jennifer is impacted on the intellectual level and Jake is appealed to on the adventurous level.

The story line is driven by the scripture found in Romans 8:28, "We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose." The events that the characters are put through really bring this truth home. Mr. Myers does a great job of balancing humor and seriousness. Some of the subjects addressed are very serious in nature and they are dealt with head on, but not to the point of making the book so somber you want to put it down. The author's sense of comedic relief makes the story come alive and the pages just seem to fly by.

I'm looking forward to continuing to share this series with the tweens in my life. If you have a tween I think you will find that this book has a very broad appeal to them. It may even surprise you at how much it will appeal to you as an adult! The next book in the series, Choices is scheduled to be released in May 2014.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

First of all, let me begin by letting readers know that this book is a juvenile fiction book. I don't usually review these types of books, but this one sounded really interesting so I thought I would give it a try. This is a contemporary fictional story set mostly in Israel.

Jake and Jennifer are twins in the 7th grade. They currently live in California with their aunt. Their mom died 10 months ago and their dad is an archeologist/scientist. Their dad unexpectedly sends for the twins to come to Israel. He is about to have a breakthrough with some new technology that will allow people to see events from the past as they happened. Jennifer and Jake have not seen much of their dad growing up as he was always traveling a lot with his work. They are not thrilled with leaving their home, school and friends to see their absent father.

Once they arrive in Israel, the action begins. There is a lot going on and the reader won't get bored. A lot of funny things happen and a lot of funny things are said. Jennifer has been plagued with the same nightmare several times. After the nightmare is over and she is awake, she still sees a dark shadowy figure that appears in her nightmare. Is she still dreaming? Once Jennifer meets Gita, her father's assistant, Jennifer learns what it is she is actually experiencing. Gita is a strong Christian and teaches Jennifer that she, too, can be strong in the Lord. Jennifer has some anger issues with her father, but realizes that he does love her.

I don't want to share too much of the plot or the ending will be ruined. There are lessons to be learned and reminders to take heed of regarding our relationship with God. Gita is a great female role model of a strong Christian woman and mentor. She is not afraid to confront evil and shows Jennifer that she can do the same. Jake provides much comedy relief, but also realizes his dad's love for him and that his sister is changing. I think kids would enjoy this book for the comedy, action and Christian teachings.
