Publisher's Description

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” The Lord’s Prayer pulses with new life through the exquisite illustrations of award-winning artist Richard Jesse Watson, and simple, yet insightful commentary by bestselling author Rick Warren. Watson’s use of vibrant color and detailed imagery beautifully captures the essence of Jesus’ words to his disciples, and Warren’s thoughtful words help make the King James Version of this prayer come alive for readers young and old.

Author Bio

Dr. Rick Warren is pastor, author, global strategist, theologian, and philanthropist.  His book The Purpose driven Life has been called the bestselling non-fiction hardback in publishing history by Publishers Weekly, having sold more than 32 million copies.  Warren founded Saddleback Church in 1980 with his wife, Kay.  In addition to a 120-acre campus in Lake Forest, CA, the church has ten satellite campuses in Southern California and three international campuses.

Richard Jesse Watson has been making books for children since 1984. He collaborated with Ruth Bell Graham on One Wintry Night, and his version of The Night Before Christmas was a New York Times bestseller. Watson won the Golden Kite Award for his picture book, Tom Thumb, and his illustrations have also been selected for the Society of Illustrator’s Annual Exhibits. Richard and his wife, Susi, live in Port Townsend, Washington. Their children are following in his footsteps as writers and illustrators of children’s books.

Editorial Reviews

Warren, author of the mega-bestseller The Purpose Driven Life (2002), and Watson join forces for a thoughtful and visually appealing introduction to the Protestant version of the Lord's Prayer (with forgiveness for debts, not trespasses). Each line of the prayer serves as the text for a double-page spread with an illustration of a child (or several children) relating to that phrase in some imaginative way. For 'give us this day our daily bread,' a little boy feeds a flock of birds in a readily obvious choice of illustration, but for 'as it is in heaven,' a line of joyous children and animals (including a lion and a lamb) skip along in a procession into a mysterious swath of swirling stars and streaks of sunshine. The illustration for 'lead us not into temptation' is inspired, showing the image of a solemn-faced boy in a mirror against a dark background lit by a single candle. The final pages include smaller reproductions of each page with short commentary by Warren to help explain the meaning of each phrase of the prayer. Watson's light-filled, expressive paintings bring the famous prayer into focus for younger children with greater accessibility than any other currently available edition. Both highly useful and beautiful---an unusual and welcome combination.

beautiful book. I bought it for a 7 year old thinking the art was really cool, but when I got the book and looked through it most of the illustrations are of toddlers, so I couldn't give it to her. It's perfect for my 3 year old though.

I love the illustrations, but I wish the explanation of the prayer was intertwined with the pages, versus waiting until the back of the book. Otherwise, it's beautiful and I love teaching my kids the Lord's Prayer

Loved it! My mom always prayed this prayer with me every night and now I have carried on the tradition with my boys. The illustrations help the boys to see the Lord's prayer in a new light. This book makes a great gift to new parents to encourage them to carry on the tradition with their children. I bought this for a gift for my boys to give to their new baby cousin.

The book is fantastic for teaching young kids the Lords Prayer. Love the pictures with all the colors. It may hold their attention. Enjoyed how it explains what the prayer means and why we say it. We bought this book for some unchurched young kids that we tend a couple times a week. It is an eye opener to see their enthusiasm towards God. They ask lots of questions and the book help with answering them in a way they can understand.

I was very happy to receive the book The Lord's Prayer. The prayer, itself, means so much--but adding the beautiful artwork to each page--makes reading Mr. Watson's book so reflective. The book is very special to us. We are saving it for our grandchildren. Thank you so much.
