Here is a story I would want every child to hear. This is a beautiful story of the life cycle of a house. But there is a deeper story- that of modernisation and "progress" . It is told in a way that children can understand, and appreciate. The warmth of the house, a real home, can be felt through the story. The plight of the little house, surrounded by a city, is very moving, but the ending is a very lovely one for the little house. Good discussions can come out of this book, as well as simple observations. Simple art work adds a special touch.

This is a story about a house that was built well that the builder declares "This house will never be sold for money. Our great grand children's great grand children will live in thie house." The house watches the days, seasons go by. She watches the city grow around her. She grows old and shabby. A woman recognizes the house as the one her grandmother lived in. They move the house out of the city and into the country. The house is happy again. It is a sweet, sweet book that my 4 year old listens to over and over again.
