Watched this movie with my niece. We had to really listen carefully as the accents were strong, but the movie was good none the less. It was a bit "spooky", or perhaps eerie at first we felt, but comes full circle with the simple message of Christ died for our sins and we are saved through him. The legend of the sin eater was interesting to learn. It's easy to forget and take for granted that we have the Bible and Word of God and that not every one knows the gospel. My opinion is this movie is best suited for 10 and over .
Only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can we be saved and our sins remitted. Communion alone without repentence brings damnation as it showed in this movie, and that 1 Corinthians 11:29&30 states.
I have to admit. I bought this movie because of the actor who plays the sin eater, Peter Wingfield, but I did not have high expectations for film.
I was VERY pleasantly surprised. It was a lot more enjoyable than expected. Enjoyable and thought provoking, so good in fact I bought the ebook and a paperback copy for one of the other youth group leaders. I'm thinking about bringing it to he next Youth Group movie night. It is good story or redemption - Cady's, the community's, and the Sin Eater's.
