Product Description

The very word Jew continues to arouse passions as does no other religious, national, or political name. Why have Jews been the object of the most enduring and universal hatred in history? Why did Hitler consider murdering Jews more important than winning World War II? Why has the United Nations devoted more time to tiny Israel than to any other nation on earth?

In this seminal study, Dennis Prager and Joseph Telushkin attempt to uncover and understand the roots of antisemitism - from the ancient world to the Holocaust to the current crisis in the Middle East. This postmillennial edition of Why the Jews? offers new insights and unparalleled perspectives on some of the most recent, pressing developments in the contemporary world, including:

  • The replicating of Nazi anti-Semitism in the Arab world
  • The pervasive anti-Zionism/anti-Semitism on university campuses
  • The rise of anti-Semitism in Europe
  • Why the United States and Israel are linked in the minds of anti-Semites

A good account from a Jewish point of view. With very valid reasons and explanations for worldwide anti-semitism. However, I felt something had been overlooked throughout the reasons given. As a Christian I could not identify with the so called 'Christians' portrayed who contributed towards the cruel treatment of the Jews. No real Christian with Gods love in their heart could ever carry out such atrocious acts to another human being.

The author also intimates that Christianity was born from Judaism and then turned against all Jews, which is not altogether true. Christianity is the continuation of Gods plan which started with God choosing the Jews and giving them His laws to take His message of salvation to ALL people. This law actually holds up our evil deeds in public view - One of the reasons for anti-semitism in the world, where evil is prevalent. The law condemns us but is not the basis for our hope. People receive their salvation not through laws but through faith in Jesus Christ. This is where Christians continue on, believing that we cannot earn salvation, it must be accepted. This was offered by believing Jews first, to Jews, where only a few accepted. Salvation then continued to the Gentiles and the Church grew. These believing Christians would not dare to be so arrogant as to presume they are the elite of the world and to hate the Jews. No way, because the Jewish people are the root and even when branches were broken off because of unbelief, gentiles were gratfed in. If God did not spare the natural branches, who is to say that if others do not stand by faith He will spare those either. In other words what right has a Christian to condemn a Jew.

God could have chosen any nation to take His laws to the world, He chose the Jews. He gave them Israel - the heart of the world. The message of Salvation originated from the Jews. The Good News is for everybody, and anyone who accepts that Jesus is the only way of Salvation will be saved.
